Hello Fellow Hunters,

I thought you might like to see the results of this mornings brief hunt with my old Excal.at a local beach.

Only a few minutes into the hunt I heard what I was sure could only be junk, but dug it anyway.

Result====the first gold I have found with this detector!

I have found enough recent coins every morning to keep coffee in my cup, but no gold until today.

5 small diamonds and an old style setting made my day!!

CJ

PS A very close look under a loop revealed not 5 small diamonds, but sixteen very small stones!

Pretty ring. Congrats!

I got into a local swim hole on Thursday evening. I just took the CZ20 off the chest mount and cobbled up a straight shaft so it needed a check out. Couple of coins, tabs and a sinker. I need to follow your example and get up earlier. There must be more gold out there.
Take care!

CJ, thanks for posting your finds, it keeps us wanna be water types in the loop until we can get near the salt water. My question is did you find this in the hard sand or on the soft beach sand.

Hi Gerry,

Thanks for your reply Friend!

This find was about 50 yards from the water in dry sand.

The signal was a bit garbled because of nearby trash, but I dug anyway and am glad I did.

That old NY Excal is treating you righteous!

Kind regards,
Steve

Once again Cupajo you hit paydirt....good for you, Very impressive find....looks like from the 30's-40's! Craig and I look forward to hunt for old gold in the winter here in CT., Nice goin!!

Nice ring! My wife spends equal time in the dry (towel line) and the wet, and usually kicks my butt. I've started to spend a little more time in the dry particularly when the tide is high. My good finds have definitely increased since doing so.

It seems that a lot of you guys are using the Ex Cals, I'm getting curious.

sometimes dry sand finds are very surprising-especially in towell zone area

The Excal is lighter than my Infinium and easier to use where there are lots of signals (especially iron nails, bobby pins, etc).

When I can find no more signals with the Excal I will switch to the PI and dig deeper.

There are a couple of fellows that hunt at the end of the day and clean this beach pretty well, but no one gets it all and I am able to pick up a dollar or so when I go out in the AM. (I'm a morning person)

Once in a while I get lucky and find something more than a few coins.

This AM I found a nice silver necklace with a hand crafted cross.

GL&HH Friends,

CJ

That is great looking piece of Gold!

When I warmed up my Excal this early AM and shuffled my way down the beach I saw a friend that lives on the beach front and has a fine view for the length of the entire beach.

He told me that yesterday he could have walked the half mile or so from one end of the beach to the other and never touched the sand as the blankets were so close together and covered with people!

An hour of slow searching put two quarters in my pocket!

My friend said that he didn't see anyone hunting. but I could see evidence all over the place and I think there must be several people hunting after dark!

The beach is well populated again today (monday) and I think I may just look in on things later to see who my competition is!

That's about the only down side to being a "morning person"-----you have to settle for what the late day hunters miss.

I bumped into an old friend on the beach this evening who told me that he had seen two women working the beach hard most evenings after dark!

He said they used headlights and hunted from just before dark until they had worked most of the beach area.

I have not seen the ladies and have no clue who they might be, but they do a pretty good job of stripping the beach of coins!

My wife and I got out at 6:30 PM and had a pretty descent evening of hunting.

The highlight of my evening was when I was hunting near a beachfront bar and noticed that the patrons were tossing coins onto the sand! (There is a little burst of sand where they toss the coin!)

I stopped hunting and chatted with them a bit to tell them how years ago I had the same experience at the neighboring bar and when one of the patrons had bounced a quarter off my nearly bald head the fun stopped!

I suggested that I was happy to dig up anything they wanted to toss onto the sand, but the first one to bounce a quarter off my noggin was going to have my sand scoop buried where the sun don't shine!!! (and I was smilin when I said it too!!)

They took it well and I didn't get any macho replies which was a good thing!

GAL&HHS Friends,

Yeah I had a drunken guy plant a replica Spanish Reale in front of me one day and BC I had my sunglasses on I guess he didnt notice me looking at him while he did it. So when I went by I pretended to find the signal and he ran up and pretended to be suprised saying "what did you find?!?" and I said "You should know, you buried it....why dont you dig that back up and take it home with you." Some people....sheesh
