... If I were you ... having a reproduction made (ask Leann) for home display purposes framed with a copy of the magazine cover and article and the original plate kept in a safety deposit box.... or safely secured at Family Hardware in Cape Coral.
 
Massachusetts. I did some quick research and MVM was used on buttons just prior to the Civil War for Mass Volunteer Milita. I then followed that particular unit and other Mass units did fight or have guard duty during the Civil War in various parts of Virginia, Maryland and DC area.
So, not knowing exactly where you found it, a search seeing if any Mass units were in that general area during the war might be some solid clues for you.

You got me looking through my civil war library ( Uh,a book the fellow left me when he moved out my play room)I looked at every picture in the book,No MVM.They did have some belt plates in the book,But nothing like you got.I'll keep on looking.
Just think,We know a celebrity.Well I guess he'll be leaving us and going to where celebritys go.:sick:
