:usaflag:City-owned properties part 2..

:usaflag:Yesterday I went to one of the city's small parks and ended up wading through a sea of beer and soda cans. I found a couple of pennies but it was getting dark, so I figure I will go back this week sometime and try the Sniper instead. Today was completely different. I went to the center of town where the library is at one end of the lot and city hall is on the other end. Right about in the middle is a gazebo where every year in june we have what is called "Timber Days"..kind of a fair/parade thing with lots of vendors set up in this little area selling food and homemade crap. Anyways...I figured I'd start at the gazebo with the Sniper and work my way around it. Well..needless to say I spent the rest of the day digging coins from around this thing..so many that I had to take a break and walk the one block back to my house and rest a bit. I went back with my daughters and dug out nearly as much as the first round. Honestly I don't think anyone has ever MD'ed this place. No old coins yet..but I did find a '59 penny...which I was surprised to see that it was'nt a wheatie...what year did they stop making wheats? Anyhoo..I bet I dug up about eight bucks worth of coins today..and I have'nt even scratched the surface. Good times :detecting:

:usaflag: I don't know exactly...I cleaned them up a bit and put them in their respective jars. I think eight bucks was a bit of a stretch..it was more like five...there are always tons of pennies. Another thing I've noticed with the Sniper is that I'm finding more nickels...but it's still twenty pull-tabs for every one nickel.....and I'm finding tons more dimes...which is the majority of the coins I found today...I bet I found around thirty dimes...five or six quarters..and twenty nickels...I lost count on the pennies.

Buy a Red Book!

1958.

Chris

Yes buy the Red Book, but also the Blue Book, as this is the average price a dealer will pay for your coins. I collect coins and I use both, one to see its book value and the other to see how much I can expect to get from a dealer. I base my resell prices on the Red Book and do most of my grading myself unless it is a rare coin.

Glad to see you're enjoying that sniper!:thumbup:It's awesome!:detecting:Yeah, I agree, get a redbook(Guidebook of United States Coins). It's nice to have.:biggrin:Happy Hunting!:)

Great to hear the hunting is good there. I have an area in mind that used to have a gazebo about 70 years ago. I just hope its still virgin dirt like what you found.
