:usaflag: A Few Days Ago I Hunted The Salt Water :detecting:-----------

for three hours or so and found a nice 14K men's wedding band with a date in '65 inscribed in it.

Yesterday the waves chased me out after a little over an hour with a few coins and a silver? hoop earing. (It was coated in a gold wash which disappeared when I cleaned it!)

Today the same stretch of beach worked very carefully for a third time produced these lovelies within 30' or so of one another!

The high school ring is 10K and 2008 (I may search for the owner, but with gold where it is I'm tempted to------------)!

The 18K man's ring has six small diamonds and a chipped emerald, but is a fine example of an antique setting!

Each of those days started with the water calm as you like and in an hour or so the waves were causing me to struggle to stay dry!

I'm seriously thinking about a drysuit to give me freedom from avoiding swamped waders and allowing me to hunt deeper water.

I am enjoying the Whites Surf Master Dual Field a lot and three gold rings in as many days isn't a bad way to start with a new machine!!

GL&HH Friends,

Very nice, CJ. Glad to know you're liking the DF because I've got one on the way. The emerald ring is especially nice but to find gold each time out with the new unit so far?? :clapping: Keep up the good hunting.

Jerry

Thanks for your replies Friends!

So far I have only good things to say about this machine!

Clive's latest book helped me to better understand what it is telling me and the one signal I wasn't sure about, because it didn't sound as I expected a ring to sound, turned out to be the best of all!

It being 18K and fairly large gave a different signal than the 10K smaller class ring.

I'm glad I dug it up,

CJ

Just so you fine folks don't misunderstand me and my intentions, I threw that pause? in there to acknowledge the temptation, not as a sign of my intention!

At this writing I have returned 34 rings to the origional owners (33 gold and 1 silver)!!

I have been written up in the Hartford Current, the nations oldest continously published news paper, twice for my efforts.

One of the rings was lost over 40 years and I was specifically searching for it over two years!

The other belonged to my wife's cousin and was in the salty brine twenty two years when I found it!

When it has been possible to find an owner the rings have been returned, but that hasn't always been easy.

I am about ready to sell a wedding band now that I have searched for the owner over a year!

(After a while one begins to think that perhaps the owner threw it away!!)

There are few things more important to our hobby than hunters willing to go the extra mile to return other people's cherished property!

GL&HH Friends,

CJ

I use the same machine and i am so tired of diging junk by the time i get to a good spot im beat and too tired to dig I know it sounds funny but it is true. I ordered the book a week ago still waiting to come from Canada to NH said two to three weeks?

CJ,

Just left the White's forum. Now I understand this post. I was impressed by your dedication to returning rings and frankly I almost fell over when I read
about two of them. But your original post was easy enough to read and catch the tongue in cheek comment about the price of gold, etc. I cannot understand why the poster on the other forum didn't catch the humor. Anway, you're to be commended for what you've done and I don't think you need to explain anything here.

If a hunter feels the effort to search out and dig up a jewel out weighs the need to return said jewel to the person that lost it I have no problem with that!!

It reflects well upon our hobby to return such finds, but the person that lost it has no doubt resolved themselves to the fact that they made a foolish mistake and must pay the price by losing it releasing the finder from any obligation to return the jewel!!

Some hunters view it this way and again I have no quarrel with that!

Each hunter must decide what is right for them and neither you nor I have a right to dictate anothers feelings or decide for them what is right.

Unfortunatly the law in some states including Connecticut insists the owner be given the jewel if it can be determined who they are.

I must admit I have had some reluctance to return some rings, but have returned them anyway because it was the right thing to do in my view!!

My decision had nothing to do with law or what reflects well on the hobby!!

It was the right thing to do!! as I see it.

GL&HH Fellow Hunters,

Hi dj,

I too have dug my share of hair pins and nails and odd bits of steel/iron!

One must pay the price to put gold in the chest!!

CJ

I have the same values as you do but I have only returned 22 rings to owners. I have 24 more class rings I keep trying to return. I also have been in numerous papers and on Fox 2 news Detroit. I feel we get enough we can't return to make returning the ones we can totally worth my time.

You and others like you and I really do help the image of our hoobby. Thanks go to you and others like you!!

wow those are some sweet finds CJ i"m glad to hear the DF is working out for ya

Hi scrooge,

My time is too valuable to spend using a machine that is less than perfect for my hunting situation and style!

That being said, I am using the DF now to determine if it is better suited for me and how and where I hunt.

When I have enough hours in using the DF I will post my views on the machine and the results.

The main difference I can comment on at this moment is that I am doing a lot more digging!

I can't say that this digging is because the machine detects deeper, but that I can't ignore iron as when using the Infinium.

GL&HH Friend,

CJ

Great finds! I enjoy returning rings to the owners, also. I've only been able to return like 8 or so, but it is a challenge that is just as fun as finding the rings. Most schools or police departments will go out of their way to help you, but recently, I've encountered a few that couldn't care less. They won't return a phone call or e-mail, and it sometimes turns into a dead-end. That makes it a little harder to locate the owner on your own. You have done extremely well.....Congrats!

When "the word" got out many years ago that I was the "go to guy" when you lost a ring in this small beach community, I had a lot of calls to hunt for lost rings.

That is how the count got so high, not because I made a huge effort to find the owners.

I have located owners of lost rings yes, but it is much more fun to find a ring with the owner observing!

As I handed a beautiful diamond engagement ring to the sweet young bride to be I assured her that if she ever lost it on the beach again and I found it I wound keep it!!

I managed to return a college ring last year after several years of trying and the deed was finally accomplished through a third party.

I never got a word of acknowledgement from any of the parties involved!!!

That's one I shoild have given up on and sold!!
