unusual big silver today

Thanks Hershey,I agree and after all the comments, and by the way guys thanks for your support,i am reassured I was right,it was an unusual coin find

I question some finds BUT, I NEVER accuse anybody of lying. I question the authenticity of the find. Chill, you have been a member for 7 years and have made 40 posts. NO ground is the same. A quarter in some ground looks great and other it looks like its been in salt water for 100 years.

Good luck out there!

If that doesn't help, we need to try this.

I have been metal detecting since 1962 and feel like I have found more than enough coins to comment on conditions of found coins. It depends on the type of soil the coin was in and whether or not there was some other type metal nearby. I have found silver coins that were as bright and shiny when they were found as they were the day they were lost. I have found some that were tarnished somewhat and others came out of the ground as black unidentifiable disks that had to undergo an electrolysis treatment in order to tell what they were. Any coin buried in close proximity to other coins or any other metal will in time tarnish because of an exchange of electrons between the two metals and the type of soil depending on its pH will determine the degree of deterioration.

Congratulations on what I consider to be a real find. (Pun intended)

Nice. For those of you talking about the color of silver coins......every silver coin I have found in my part of the country....(S.w. VA) they have all been shinny silver just like it was lost yesterday.

Very cool find, amazing the stuff we find that I never knew even existed.
