:unsure:Monte, what are your thought about this story?

Most of the time I let stuff ride. It is after all, as you said, a place to share ideas, helps, and yes, even opinions. In this case I didn't. It wasn't a helpful post. I see it as a tear down and discredit post.

If Monte had his history and written this article and you were the one who had posted that reply I would have responded the same way toward you.

I doubt Monte or I will quit posting. I suspect we both have very thick skin.

Mike

I don't know what thats all about and don't really care.

Slingshot I'm with you, no matter where the info comes from and whether it rings true to me or not it does give reason for thought and how it might help.

nothing!.. if that's your take on the matter, and it doesn't matter to you!

Surely there is nothing wrong with you disagreeing with Monte's post but what does his choice of detectors have to do with anything? Most detectorists are biased when it comes to their detectors. Would you say Dankowski is a biased toward Fisher detectors? How's about Bill Ladd? Rick (ND) biased toward Minelab? Larry Cissna Tesoro? John in Edmonton Garrett? I could go on but if you don't get the point, oh well.

It appears to me Tom was trying to put the Whites and the ML in a bad light by his article, which BTW is normal since he was/ is acting as a Fisher agent. He therefore is "biased" in his opinions also. It is near impossible to be completely free from bias simply because we all have our own likes and dislikes.

Tom Dankowski is a confident, self assured, qualified writer.

I've read everything I could find written by him.

In his promotion of the CZ line, it becomes quite clear you must dig 'em all.

Monte is not incorrect in his evaluation of Tom Dankowski's presentation.

Frankly, after reading Monte's literary works for some time, I would say two things:

It is apparent Monte has more technical experience in circuitry and use of various machines in the field.

Tom Dankowski is a better writer, devoted to promoting one product.

and the CZ is a great machine!

when one is biased toward a particular detector then the general "helpfulness" of the post is compromised, because any info given about THAT particular make is dis interesting, and of very little value to people who own other makes!..that's all!..other than that his posts ARE entertaining and interesting to read!

Even a newbie like myself can recognize the value of Monte's knowledge. He puts a lot of time into posts that I (and a lot of other people) learn from. His knowledge is extensive so I'm glad when his posts are long.

Someone who appreciated Monte's expertise asked him his opinion about an article and gave it.

Monte speaks well about several Whites detectors, but he also speaks well about several other manufacturer's models. To accuse him of shilling for Whites seems a little ridiculous. As someone else said, a lot of different experienced and successful detectorists have manufacturer preferences.

Give Monte a break.

Sheesh

Monte not have freedom to post whatever he wants to. He does have extensive knowledge about metal detecting and detectors. Sure, he has his favorites but he is an old timer and maybe has got set in his ways:). Who cares if he is critical of somebodies post or detector? Sometimes this boils down to a Ford/ Chevy debate. Ok let me mention I don't presently own a Whites so it has nothing to do with whether I am a Monte follower or not. I have found his posts informative and almost always enjoy reading them regardless of whether I agree with them or not, I don't always agree with some of his conclusions.
I do see he also likes a good number of Tesoros and some other brands/ models. It appears he favors some of the older models from various brands, there are others of us that feel the same way, haha, maybe some more of us are getting old too:biggrin:. No, I don't feel the ones he usually prefers are the only detectors to have or that they are necessarily superior to many others out there from the various brands.
I have read Tom's article and think it does have value, hell, I guess I just like reading posts as long I think there is some intelligence involved.

I have had some mornings just sitting around having a cup of coffee and read some MD forum stuff.
I have had some enjoyable reading, and some where I didn't finish reading as it didn't hold my attention.
Keep posting Monte:thumbup:

Well said Tab-nabit......................I'll second that.

when I get a broken signal.

If you listen very closely sometimes a signal will start out to be

good sounding, and then break up. When the coil is swung in

the opposite direction, there may just be a broken sound. Or

may be none at all. There could be an off set masking taking

place. If the coil is angled and swung in the right direction and

in the right place, more information may be collected. In other

words, CHECK IT OUT!!!!

I think that is a good observation.

Thanks for bringing that up.

I'm sure someone will think this is dumb, but I believe in it.

Happy Hunting,

Part of my th'ing experience is getting back from the field and reading the forums and learning. Before I started doing that I was a full-fledged, pulltab discriminating, foil excluding, zinc penny rejecting and ringless "coin shooter". Thanks to everyone.
