Unexpected Error:ranting:

I took the CTX out for a hunt today but kept having problems. Over the course of about 2 hours, my detector froze 6 times and the screen showed "Unexpected Error." I don't know what kind of errors are to be expected but I do know I am missing my E-Trac right about now as it never had a single "Unexpected Error" in the time that I owned it. I will be calling Minelab tomorrow but I am pretty p'ed off with this machine right now. Switched over to the Deus after the 6th freeze and enjoyed the rest of my day. Luckily I was smart enough to bring a backup machine with me. Never needed one with previous Minelabs but this one surely seems to warrant a backup. If anyone has information on this problem, please share as I am about to give up on this thing. Thanks and HH -Marc

Have you tried a machine reboot? Turn on the machine but keep holding the power button down until you hear a low tonal signal, then release the button. You will get a Reset menu. If you choose Reset All, the machine will reboot and take you back to factory settings and prompt you to select your language again. You will lose any settings you have made, though.

Keep us updated...

I will try to reboot, thanks for the information on how to do it. I will also keep you posted as to what Minelab says tomorrow. Thanks guys. -Marc

Were you using the Wireless module and/or GPS features? I have 6 hunts on my CTX with zero issues but I have not used either of those features yet.

Marc, I posted this same issue several days ago. I had to pull battery to restart the machine. Minelab is aware of this. You should call to advise then of your issue's aswell. I was told we can do software updates thru the USB from Minelab. Not sure they are set uo yet. Maybe they can use Exchange 2 program? good luck steve

I would be looking to exchange the detector.. Out of the box a device should not be giving such errors. I would be concerned about long term reliability.

Very sorry your having that problem with a brand new toy. That can be very frustrating. Hope Minelab has an easy fix. I also have to call First Texas today on a CZ-21 I just got back from them on Saturday. I also hope they will give me an easy answer.

Do you know what an air conditioner and a computer have in common??

When you open windows they both stop working!
At least its not running the Windows operating system.

New metal detectors should not have problems - like all electronic equipment.
You should always buy your equipment using a credit card.

As much as you like your new machine - if you used your credit card you have the right to a full refund or exchange for a brand new item if what you bought is not working to your satisfaction.
Call your dealer and ask for a replacement new machine. If they won't do that, then ask for a refund upon return of your damaged machine. If they won't do that, then note your correspondence with the dealer and make a charge back dispute with your credit card company when you get your credit card statement.
You have 60 days from your statement date to dispute any charges that appear on that statement.

You do not need to accept having to have repaired goods when the item is less than 60 days old.

What do these people think these electronic items are - automobiles?

If enough problem machines are returned to dealers who will return them to the distributor - you can bet the manufacturer will move quickly to address the problems...they will have more refurb machines than they know what to do with...

Or you contact Minelab and let them assist you. From my dealings with them their return policy is very good. When you buy the machine you also buy a warranty.

And yes anything new should not have problems but invariably some will. There is always a failure rate in manufacturing. Nothing is 100%. Including automobiles as you stated.

Update:

I didn't even have to call Minelab about my issues, THEY CONTACTED ME firs thing this morning. They are sending me a new machine with rush delivery. Minelab customer service is simply awesome. I wanted a software update and instead am getting a new machine. I did not expect that and I really appreciate their eagerness to "make things right." I honestly don't believe that there is anything "wrong" with my machine that a software update couldn't fix but they insisted that I send in the machine for a new one so they could check it out to ensure that build quality standards are being met and that there are no flaws. Pretty cool if you ask me. If I were one of the many guys out there waiting to purchase this machine, I would feel really good about these efforts that Minelab is making to make sure that we all receive top quality products. I know someone will probably say this is to be expected from such an expensive machine, but as I said, I don't think there is anything physically wrong with the machine, I think it's a simple software issue that just needs to be pinpointed and problem solved.

Either way, Thank you all for your support and a BIG THANK YOU to Minelab for providing above and beyond customer service as usual!

Best Regards,

Marc

Wish I could get my CTX 3030 I pre-ordered on the 20th of May.... My dealer still hasent recieved any shipments from minelab.

Maybe they could rush-deliver me the one I paid for :surprised:

NOW THAT is what is to be expected. Awesome. I'm sure they included the shipping label for the return item too.
Good for you and Minelab.
The Minelab guys in Chicago are awesome.

That just goes to show you that Minelab (to their credit) are watching & reading these posts and sincerely do want to make things "right".------I hope they are also reading Randy's post "Software update suggestions for the CTX 3030"--and the responses.
