I came to the US as a 5 year old from Dukinfield, a small town in Manchester. I remember going to Blackpool, have any of you blokes tried it there?

i am told ther is more gld on bpool than anyother beach the hard part is getting to it but i know a few who have found plenty i like to dig under the pier with a sieve to much iron to detect yeah tod get the forum up i had one myself but never time to manage it, i do a beach in s wales that you only find at low tid on the bigest of tides you only get about 1hr if your lucky on the spot but its a good one - if only you could do a good session on it - but saying that if it wass accessable it would of all gone by now,

I used to use the deepstar when i travelled with the Wizard but i then bought an xs2apro i had a trigger switch put on to flick from all metal t reject on one trip we compared the pro to the deepstar we found it to be just as deep in all metal so i now use this in all metal then check with reject if it nulls out i know its iron if there is no change in tone the signal is to deep for the reject so take a few spades out, i now mainly do abroad for most of the gold i have but we have found we have to keep finding new resorts as some have silted up and gone bad i think its when they pump the sand on in the winter and the shore drift even washes this down coast.

i have just returned from abroad with good results,

i find on this forum its mostly the Americans we Brits should chat more about what we find, don't you think?

I welcome UK finds. Scream it from the roof tops!

When we has the last proper recession you could get on to the front at Blackpool at first light and there would be lines of people (many unemployed) with detectors.
So to many detecting and to few holidaying there as people wanted guaranteed sun for their holidays and that meant Spain/Turkey/Greece etc when cheap air fares arrived.

Back in the seventies you didn't even need a metal detector as the wind would blow the length of the beach and leave coins sat on tiny piles of sand.
Fifty years back we would use mesh, curved and fitted to a frame to drag behind and scoop up the coins on dry sand at Blackpool and the beaches right down to Liverpool. Any beach with a stream or river cutting down through it you could see coins glittering amongst the stones there for the picking.

When detectors finally arrived you could go to Angelsey in North Wales and there was sufficient coins around that the sea had the chance to sort them and you could find hot spots of the same size coins. Rarely happens now as they are taken off almost as soon as they are dropped.

OK UK Brian, so you're saying I really need my pi, a drysuit, scoop and a TARDIS!

Toddy that sounds like a great idea about the forum, I'm now a member of another forum that post's about UK beaches and there doesn't seem like there's much traffic on it. Apart from the latest news about permits.

Hi all, I'm from UK but live in Spain now
I suppose here in Spain we are about the same position as UK all those years ago, i have only ever seen 4 people with detectors here in more than 10 years(one of them i go out with regularly) and 2 came for a weekend to visit/detect with me, 1 left with gold and the other my old Excalibur 1000.
There are detectorists her but the majority are inland and those that are on the coast generally coinshoot the dry, when someone comes over on holiday that know what they are doing water hunting, especially in the Med side , they do a bit of a cleanup.
In November last year new bylaws came out for Andalucia(brought on by the Odyssey Salvaging a large amount of gold) banning completely detecting 100%, after some fight and manifestation they are now issuing very few licences for the beaches, those that have them are doing well.
Other than Andalucia there are very few problems here, some places put time limits on ie. no detecting from 09:00 till 20:00 or similar in the summer months to calm the waters sort of speak as its not taken too kindly here detecting amongst the sunbathers as it is in US, personally i prefer to go after hours anyway and before the beach cleaners get to work in the morning. Would be nice to get a visit, although its not as hot here as in the south

was it this one Toddy, http://www.beachdetecting.co.uk i tried registering a long time ago but never got any activation reply

No you need a good detector. I prefer pulse but also have Minelab and Whites If the area dictates a need for twin or multifrequency.
In the past you could use a IB or TR, set to foil reject to balance out the salt and do better than you can today.

Now you need to work the sand directly the crowds (not that we get to many of them) leave, to get the modern stuff at the top, and follow the tide out to pick up the rings. Then accept that there's lots more people with detectors and much fewer using the beaches. Plus hope the winter storms and high tides strip down to the hardpack.

Yes Kered and that will be the Domain of the UK Beach forum, hopefully this time we can get it kicked of right. It will be sorted soon.
