Two Halfs in the Hole

These came out of a curb strip along a sidewalk. They were about one foot apart.

I wonder about how they came out looking so different. There wasn't anything else in the holes.

Cheers,

Joe

Nice finds, there's about a million reasons why one coin looks different from the other, most likely exposure to some chemicals in the ground would be my best guess.

I think you’re right. I see more discoloration on coins where pellet fertilizer is used that those where liquid is sprayed. Also, curb strips most likely get winter salt run off from deicers etc. Nice finds no matter the patina!!

A wrap-up on the two Kennedy halfs.

They went with some other coins to get a cold six-pack. I'm enjoying 1/6th of it now -- it's 103 degrees outside.

Now they can continue their journey from the store's cash drawer to somebody's pocket, and onward to more pockets, and then maybe they can head for another hole in the ground, ready for a metal detecting enthusiast to rescue them.

Isn't recycling great?

Cheers,

Joe
