Two days two silver halfs

relic ray

Active member
Sunday, 1940 half dollar.
Monday, 1897 half dollar.
Tuesday, 1917 Rosie, Sterling silver religious pendant.
These are only a few of my finds. This park has been VERY good to me.
But finding two silver halves on two consecutive days is almost unheard of.
The 1897 half was not dropped, it was buried. There was a flat rock 1 foot by 1 foot, by 3 inches thick sitting directly over the half. I removed the rock, dug down 5 inches, and behold, an 1897 half.
So in essence, I found a buried treasure.

High Ho Silver…goodness!

Amazing finds !!!
I’d like to know the story behind that intentionally buried Barber half…
Yeah, we'd all like to know why it was buried.
Maybe a few people were in a hunting party and they spent the night. A guy stole the half and buried it and then forgot where he buried when he came for it a few days later. A half dollar was a lot of money back then. It could feed a whole family for a week.
