TRX, Where's The Dirt Tests?

You are so right Terry A pinpointer that can get more depth is good you and I and others know how hard it is to find small or just A little deeper targets and how often we dig to the point where we give up once we hit the depth are Detectors show the target is at or should be then still dint find nothing A Real Treasure hunter knows that and when I'm hunting I need all the help I can get when Digging deep signals so I'm not shacking someone Else's hand on the other side of the world :laugh:so now I cant wait till my new TRX comes in and try it out HH All

Okay,, i think you need to put both your wine coolers down..:)

The wine coolers had nothing to do with it LOL. I'm pretty sure.

Good video Southwind but the point I am making is if your detector gives you a depth reading of 7 inches and you dig down 7 inches why do you need a pinpointer to go 5 inches? You should have dug down close to the target so now all you want to do is pinpoint its location. If you have the pinpointer detecting 5 more inches you could be digging down 5 more inches for a piece of trash and miss the good target that is in the plug

You're gonna love it Buddy!

The plug came out with 6" of grass roots. I cleaned out the loose dirt and if I'd had a pinpointer that would go more than 2" I could have save having to dig deep and could have just used my screw driver to pop the coin out. I'm just show why having a pinpointer that goes deeper than 2" is very practical. I have my TRX coming Thursday. Anyone who doesn't thinks you don't need a pinpointer that goes deeper than 2" doesn't dig a lot of deep coins. LOL

When possible, I like to see the target as it sits in the ground. Hard to do if you just have a general idea where the target is at. Same with depth. You can only guess unless you can find the target as it still sits in the ground. I don't like having to stand up and run my detector over the hole again, because my pinpointer saw nothing, then get down, dig some more and check again with the pinpointer.

I tried the TRX out last night for a real short time and loved it. It got a signal first time on every hole after removing the plug. Very happy so far. I'm hoping this weekend I can get a few videos comparing the PP and TRX on the same target in the ground.

More depth with stability is a good thing if you dig deeper and/or iffy targets.

More depth with stability is a good thing if you pop shallower coins.

But good depth alone isn't enough if everything else about the pinpointer is crap...AKA the Pistol Probe.

I remember how the Pro Pointer revolutionized metal detecting for me when it came out in 2008.

And I remember back in 2008 and 2009 I got into debates on a couple threads with quite a few of my fellow dirt fishers who were saying a pinpointer was an unneeded accessory. I wonder how many of them still say that?

It sounds like the TRX is taking the handheld pinpointer to the next level.

I still love the Pro Pointer, but if the folks up in Sweet Home can give me 3" with stability on a dime instead of 1.4", and do it in an efficient and functional package, I'm in.

Marcomo, well said! One thing I might add. Whites makes some of the best detectors on the market and backs them up with class leading service. My current Pro pointer is over two years old and out of warranty. It has been well used and turned on and off thousands of times. Now, we all know the TRX will outperform the Propoinnter and hopefully, it will be as durable.

Thanks RLOH, this will be my first time owning a White's product, and I know White's has a great rep for service and durability.

A lot of times when a product you use all the time degrades you don't realize it because it happens slowly over time. As solid as the Pro Pointer is, with the several I've had, performance gradually decreased over time.

My guess is if you had a new Pro Pointer in hand and compared it to your 2+ year old one, you'd notice the difference right away.

Compared to a well used one, a new Pro Pointer sounds better. It's crisper in the ground on targets, and just plain feels better in your hand.

I own 2 Garretts ProPointers and the oldest one gets better depth than the newest one. Both were bought back in 2010. Propointer is a fine pinpointer IMO. I have a Whites TRX coming though. I will do thorough unbiased testing when it gets here.

A brand new Propointer does sound better, I give you that. I won't say that the PPr loses depth with age though. Mine didn't.
