Truth about the MXT

I just wanted to clarify the deep silver part of my post. The MXT will get quarter silver size coins at 8" - 9" or so, I have seen the Explorer and V3i get them at around 10". You can't go wrong with the MXT.

That is a fair statement John, of course depth will vary with ground conditions and the expertise of the operator, but the high end detectors do have the advantage. At twice the price of the MXT, you would expect to get something more for your money.

Very true Larry, I should have mentioned the ground. In southern California I could definitely pick up silver coins deeper than northern California. The ground in northern CA seems to be much more mineralized for the most part and I would loose a bit of depth. I am off to England in 6 months, can't wait to try out my MXT there. Jimmy Sierra mentioned that the MXT shines in England.

Good luck on your trip to England John.

Yes I agree that the MXT is a great investment at it's price but I also feel that the V3i is a phenomenally good value for a "tool" with the capabilities it has. JMTCW

Yes, the V3i is the ultimate detector IMHO, that is my choice of toys, but a fully programmable detector is not for everyone and expect a long learning curve to master.

Thanks Jack, I am actually moving to England in about 6 months. I am in Italy now and don't get to detect much, the laws here are crazy, actually I don't think anyone knows what exactly they are. Even in places that you are allowed to detect, the police can decide to take your detector away until you can see a judge. So what I do to get around this when I do get a chance to detect, is to get a permit from the comune (city hall) for free. That way if I am ever stopped, I can show the police my permit and show them the permit is stamped with the seal of the comune.
