Troy Shadow X-3

For a beep and dig excellent.Great depth and discrimination.I wouldn't pay more than 400.00 dollars for one.HH Ron

Hmmm....my wife still uses her X3 because its rainproof and light and packs up small for travelling. It was overpriced when it came out, needs a second coil (the web coil from the X5, the X5 needs the small X3 coil). Great build quality as manufactured by Fisher.

Discrimination is to tight at the lower levels and there's a sort of click point where it changes from rejecting to little to to much.

Like its big brother the X5 it doesn't cope with high mineralisation well. Both are discontinued, coil covers seem impossible to find nowdays. Troy did carry on with repairs after production halted but I'm not certain whats happening at the moment.

I would suggest you try Tesoro before you buy. Build is not the same but more than made up for by the lifetime warranty.

If under warranty Fisher repairs..if second owner Troy is still up and running and will repair..Yep Tesoro with its lifetime warranty is hard to beat but newer Tesoro's compared to an Troy unit are not of the build quality of years ago.

Certainly a well made weather resistant unit and its big brother the X-5 is certainly one of the deepest around..
