Trade Regrets

I have the CTX after 3 years with an E-Trac and I am very happy with my decision to let my E-Trac go. The CTX has proven to be a great machine for me. I have been hunting lately where it starts to rain and I don't have to worry anymore about the machine getting wet. I also don't have to worry about getting the CTX dirty while hunting as I just take it in the shower with me when I get home from hunting and wash it off and it looks like new every time. The decision you are making is a tough one as they are both excellent machines. The E-trac was not made obsolete, as others on the forum have mentioned, but the E-Trac has been improved on tremendously in the CTX package. I don't regret my purchase one tiny bit and I am one very happy customer/owner. I hope this helps. -Marc

Joe, my first couple of outings with the Etrac lead me to believe that I had made a mistake buying it. After several more outings I started to really learn the machine and my feelings went from did i make a mistake to wow this thing is inc readable. Maybe you don't have enough swing time in to fully understand the CTX.I have already done side by side comparisons with my CTX and Etrac in my own yard and the CTX definitely showed an advantage to target location among iron. Don't give up quite yet on the CTX. Pat

Etrac, its not you. Its me. I met someone new a couple weeks ago and its love at first sight. I'm sorry for the pain I caused you by packing you off like that in your original carton. You will never be forgotten. We shared some great times. Thanks for the memories and making me look so good hanging on my arm wherever we'd go. You were so hot inTTF and a small coil! Just thinking about your high flutey silver voice will always make me smile. I hope you are now making some other guy as happy as you made me.

D

P.S. - can we still be friends?

I am getting ready to sell the etrac now, and although it is a sentimental machine, many great memories, I can not find anything the ctx does not do as well or better than the etrac....period. As others have said the lack of coils (and even any information on when they will be available, cmon Minelab!!) is my only machine capability concern. The only other thing I do miss is the inline probe, and it will be sorely missed. Having the ability to use the machine on the beach, in the water, in the field, being able to just shower it off and the wireless headphones all make up for that. Once the 17" gets here for the beach one machine will do what my etrac did for inland, excal did for wading and GT with wot does on the beach. During the summer I used to carry all 3 in my truck, now I will carry one with extra coils. Knowing what I know now, having both, i would not look back.

Man I want a CTX really bad, but will wait, one for the financial reasons the other to let some of the inevitable bugs in a new product to be worked out. I would not be happy with the Internet Explorer problems coming on without being forewarned it seems as that would have been something that would have been checked out first. Hopefully they got the power off situation now under control. From what I see it is a killer machine but in no way would I turn my E-Trac loose it has been too good to me. And imagine when you tell someone "Oh my backup machine...it's an E-Trac!"

Thanks! That is my biggest concern - inline probe. I love and depend on it. Probably the reason I won't go to the CTX.

I'm there with you. Let the issue be discovered and dealt with first.

LOL! Now that was a great comparison!

Is there a plug to seal off the headphone jack so that you can clean it up in the shower?

I wished I lived closeby so I could try it. Thanks for your honesty Joe.

I have 5 different coils for my E-trac, including the stock coil, all with Tall Man shafts and harware attached for fast swap out to my Sunray probe switch box. One other reason I'm not so sure about going to the CTX is that I would be limiting my coil choices for different circumstance.

Another good post! The probe, the probe, the probe... is what I keep coming back to.

You are welcome, I have about twenty hours on it so far. I do seem to be getting better with it. I just don't think this lives up to the hype for the price. If you can, try one for your self and do give it a chance. I don't mean to bash it-just being honest. The headphones are a joke, not having an inline probe is also a problem. I can see with the CTX being waterproof that we may never see this-too bad.

I do miss my Sun-Ray probe. Hopefully the new ML handheld will be out soon. Duke one thing I have noticed with the CTX 3030 over the E-Trac is accurate TID with depth. Not many iffy targets either. But the E-Trac with a WOT is a beach monster so I will hang on to mine. Do try a CTX if you get a chance. It has a few things that reminds me of the E-Trac but the CTX is definately not an E-Trac. HH :minelab:

I feel the same, not giving up on my Etrac-too many good memories and the sound of silver under the coil is something I live for. Once I purchased my Sunray probe my recovery time was reduced by at least thirty percent. Not giving up on my CTX yet, I have a Minelab rep that wants to meet with me and take me on a hunt this coming week-sounds good to me. Maybe he will plant some things for me to find... hint hint

That sounds great! Let us know how the experience with the Rep goes.

Gotta be honest here folks (and honestly dont wish to upset anybody)been pretty low key for a while ...I own the explorer 2 ,the etrac and now the ctx3030 and I love my explorer 2 over both of them and in all honesty folks i dont see what all the big fuss is about with the ctx..if you own the etrac stick with it...the only benefit i see is that you can use it in water. I have done my own testing and etrac picked up all the targets the ctx did no problems ..Just my honest opinion guys I hope I didnt upset anybody:thumbup:

As you can see by my list of past detectors I've been looking really hard to find a detector that could, in my opinion, out perform the good old E-Trac. I found nothing until now. Being an old long-time White's user I really liked the V3i because I like lots of input. I'm not a beep-N-digger at all I want better odds that my time isn't a waste. I always felt my perfect machine would be a mis of E-Trac and V3i. I believe the CTX fits that description.
