Trade Regrets

Anyone regret trading in their E-trac for the CTX. I love my E-trac! I have the Sunray probe, Sunray Pro Gold headphones, 10x8, 12x10 and 15x12 SEF coils and a 5" Excelerator coil all with tallman shafts and hardware for very easy swap out. It's a great machine and a lot to consider giving up for something unknown to me. Is it really that much greater than the E-trac?

WOW, THAT's a NICE TRY! LOL I wonder if YOU will have any deaf dumb and blind takers.....LOL I LOVE my ETRAC, still......this new machine is monster in the making......will you include crayolas to make the ETRAC screen color? Just sayin.....

Good Luck!

have to wonder how over night the etrac is obsolete still plenty of people finding plenty of stuff with it.

I did at first. I thought wow, im not doing any better. But after i got to know what SHE was saying to me, well, it was sorry E, you are my EX, hello ctx!

It took a week of constant back and forth should i get the ctx 3030 or not i drove my self nuts so i read up on it and when i saw what it could do and what others where reporting i got one and took it to a pounded out home site and i mean pounded out with numerous detectors including the etrac and we stopped hunting the site because we weren't finding any more targets so i tried the ctx 3030 at the site where it was full of iron the etrac would just null out but with the ctx 3030 i found 4 more wheats and a button the wheats just rang out like it was alone but there was iron everywhere the ctx id's better and the target separation is also better then the etrac in my opinion and this was a quick hunt cant wait to go back and see what else is there that we missed Good luck and HH

I did exceptionally:cheekkiss: well with my E-TRAC. I hunted a couple of hours with the CTX 3030 and sold my E-TRAC:blowup: the next day. The extras are not available for the CTX yet but I think in time that they will be.. Richard

My beloved E-Trac is gone also.. not a regret..

I don't regret getting the CTX but I do regret not hanging on to a Explorer or Etrac until the smaller coil becomes available. wildherre

I am hanging on to the Etrac for a little while, at least until I try out the 17 and 6 coil. Then who knows. It has been a great detector.

I have only had the CTX out for a few minutes. Enough to try my coin garden on one deep dime that I placed deep enough to not be able to get a hit on the Etrac with the largest coil. The CTX in a simple coin program hit the dime no problem with the 11 inch coil. What can I say. It was nice to see it. I will be hitting the old hunted out areas again. WIll get out tomorrow with the CTX for a several hour hunt. Looking forward to it.

Due to the poor balance of the E-Trac I'm quite happy with the CTX. It being waterproof is a nice thing as well. Just more flexibility overall.

One of my two concerns right now is the availability of coils. The E-Trac with the 13" Detech was VERY CLOSE to the performance of the CTX (but the balance was still bad). So, I hope Minelab opens up the aftermarket coil market and doesn't use that chip as an anti-competitive thing.

If any of you recall a post I made the first day I learned to use the CTX3030, I said that I was confident that there would be no buyer's remorse after purchasing a CTX3030, even if you owned an ETrac.

I commented that I did not feel this would be a situation where you would use this machine, then end up sticking it in the garage and go back to your ETrac.

I have been detecting for 22 years and every thing I have learned about Minelabs over the years, just told me this was a true winner and much more than just another pretty face. I love reading the great posts here, seeing the wonderful videos, and learning even more about this remarkable machine.

Where I live we mostly prospect for gold, but in three weeks I will be taking off for our annual 3 week vacation in a condo on the beach at Imperial Beach California. I can't wait to use the CTX3030.

I appreciate everyone's willingness to share their experiences and their great finds. Thanks!

Hi Guys,

We have a lot of parks here in oz with very little iron to contend with.BUT heaps of canslaw, pullabs. screw caps [aluminium} Do you guys think the ctx has the advantage over the e-track in this enviroment and why.

Regards Below2doe

I've only been out twice with the CTX and can already say I won't be missing my E-Trac.

Tule, I'm trying to be serious here. What's up with comments? I have had great luck with my E-trac and I do "love it"! To just jump to the CTX IS an issue for me. It's an unknown to me and I would have to trade my E-trac. It's a step I want to be sure of.

Thanks Southwind. This is the kind of input I'm looking for. It's a big decision when I already own soemthing that has been a super machine for me.

Though I have not sold or traded my Etrac, it has been sitting in the corner since purchasing the CTX. There are definitely times I have been tempted to switch back (especially when not finding silver). I was never very good at two-tone ferrous and didn't have patience to learn it well. Since buying the CTX, I've been using the combine feature exclusively. Though I still dig a fair amount of nails, I'm getting better and finding more coins. I will say the thing I miss the most on my Etrac is an intelligent pinpointer. Though the Pro Pointer is nice, I hate turning it on, checking to make sure its on, lifting one headphone, scanning the hole, checking to make sure its on, moving the pinpointer when it goes crazy "seeing" my lesche or detector, and hope I don't leave it behind.

Yesterday I went to a local park to do some water detecting...which is something I've never done. After a couple of hours I had found some clad and a junk bracelet. I got out of the water, changed headphones, and started detecting the adjoining field. This field has lots of fill so I've never found anything old in the middle of it. I cranked the sensitivity to 30, swung slow and listened for deep signals. Five minutes in, got a choppy 11-43 9" signal and dug it. Though I had a little trouble pinpointing it since it was so choppy, I pulled out a '34 Merc. If nothing else did, this morning convinced me there as no turning back to the Etrac.

I sold a etrac and excalibur to buy the ctx and have no regrets lucky for me i still have a etrac for backup, both are great machines and there are super deals on the used coils for the etrac

I would say I somewhat agree with what has been said here, IMHO I don't think the CTX is much deeper than the E, my experience an inch at best. The thing I will say is the target separation is the key-in this regards it is better. I do feel however that this machine was hyped beyond what I feel are its capabilities. I would like to see who these people are posting here....are you a dealer? a ML sponsored field tester or are you, like me, an average Joe trying to find out if this machine does as well as the dealers and field testers say it does. For Twenty five hundred dollars I don't think I am out of line, I won't be selling my E, I am considering selling my CTX only because I don't feel the price tag matches its performance. I have tried several programs and tweaked several settings including ferrous/coin combined audio etc. I realize soil conditions affect performance, In my area the E hit around eight inches tops on a dime signal and it was iffy but it turned out to be a merc.

I have both machines and belong to a local club, I have offered others the chance to try both machines side by side and see for themselves. Anyone out there in the Minnesota area want to take me up on this lets meet. You choose the settings on both machines....again, I have nothing to gain or lose with my postings.
