tot lots off limits

Yeah I had a playground that was one of my prime hunt spots at a Christian School. The playground stuuf was all wood and some idiot set it on fire and burned it up. The playground got fenced in and locked - no more beeping.

no offence here ether KRT yeah we"v got some bad ground over here mostly when you head out in the bush.

hi KRT im an aussie like lazy aussie its hard for me to dig plug holes because we are in a drought over here if you read my post under first time out all i was able to dig was dust i didnt dig any deep targets i was limited for time so i only dug targets that were 2'' deep knowing they hopefully were coins thanks MM

Another aussie here. South Australia (driest state in the driest nation)

When I see clips like this I think......"wow look at that wonderful lush green grass" and "wow look at that great soft WET soil".

You would need a jackhammer to make a video like that in some of our parks. The southern states have been in drought for 10 years now, and a fair bit of that time water restrictions has stopped the watering of most pubic parks, with the exception of few parks and ovals. Hard dirt with dead grass is the norm for me, some parks are better though.

I think that as long as you leave the place as you found it, and no one could notice you have been there, and the grass doesn't die....you've done a good job.

You are very lucky if you hunt a park like this lush.

Cheers

I just recently updated my computer and got high speed which allows me to get You Tube and I have been viewing most of the metal detecting videos and not once have I seen anyone using a probe (not electronic) to locate their target. This year I would like to make a video illustrating the technique I use, but first I have to update to digital. I am also experimenting with a new simple gadget that just popped into my head this winter and I made one and works great, but have to try it in the field. Its a very simple gadget that costs under a buck to make and will retrieve the coins from a deep hole the size of your finger. Thanks fellas for your forgiveness I am truly sorry for referring to anyone as "stupid" anyway if anyone wants any detail on my method and pics drop me an email HH KRT

Metal detector hunters are welcome here in tot lots. I have shown sharp trash that will hurt kids, live bullets, rusty nails from tot-lots to parks people and parents. I think that this helps promote a friendly spirit towards detector hunters. Bill in Texas

Alot of the parks here in Fl use cypress or some other form of mulch. During the dry season (which seems to be permant thing for the last several years now) makes conditions for a single cigerette or match to start a smoldering fire that once the winds become just right starts a mulch fire. It happens on our landscaped median strips and at any place that has smokers and mulch. Any kind of similar mulch will go up in flames if it is natural. They are statrting to use rubber and other types of playground mulch in parts of the US. I don't know if this is a good Idea as there are hazards with that as well.

What I hate is the tot lots and playgrounds covered in pea gravel. What a bummer and hard on kiddies when they fall in this stuff. What are the idiot school officials thinking of?

Bill

I've seen plugs 16 inches in diameter and in one park the attendant took me around and showed me holes two feet in diameter. I've seen beeper swingers walk into parks and schools carrying a full-sized shovel. Make me shudder.

:yikes: I have seen a lady and two kids digging a humongous hole in a tot-lot with a shovel. It must have been 5 foot in diameter. No they weren't detecting and they did not fill it up. They were just playing. Also they left soda cans and other garbage laying around. Isn't that nice for us detector types. Yep I cleaned it up to the best of my ability, but did not have a shovel myself. Bill in Texas

Uncle Willie : No I use Duck bill pliers they have a tip width of 3/8 in and I use them to make a hole with that I can put my finger in along with the probe and putting the probe or screwdriver alongside the edge of the coin I flip it up against my finger and pull it out then squeeze the hole together and leave no signs that I was there. I have been using this method for over 30 years works on coins 3 -4 inches. The gadget I am working on now will get the deeper coins from the fingersized hole, the ones that you can't reach with your finger. HH Ken

I have a permit to detect a fresh beach around me. The caretaker of this beach that lives on site in a RV came down and checked my permit. He was an A-hole and said for me to cover all my holes. I told him I always do. Then I asked him if he was going to tell the other people to cover up the two huge ponds they dug next to the water. I mean they were 5 ft in diameter and two of them. He just laughed and said "you really think they would fill those in?" Then walked away. So I guess if you dig a huge hole it doesn't need to be filled in?

khouse i"v see that over here to parents dig a huge crater about 6f round by the waters edge to put there small kids in & at the end of the day they walk off & leave it yet if i leave a few small 4inch holes in the sand i"d be shot down .

Some of them will leave all their trash there too. I was on a fresh water beach and dug a big signal in the dry. I scooped up like 25 beer tops, foil, plastic food wrappers and cigarette butts. Trash from a picnic I'm sure. I guess they just dig a hole and filled it in like a trash dump. I cleaned it all up. But we are the bad guys to the uninformed! Maybe designer headphones would change peoples mind set?
