Took 10X12 to Site Where I Found the Two Mini Balls

This morning I decided to take my 10 X12 concentric
coil and use it on this site with my Euro Sabre. I used
a 5.75 when I found the mini balls yesterday. I wanted
to see if I could get deeper. I had mixed and frustrating
results.

Here

wow, td, that's quite a crater... but, i would have done the same thing... dig it up! the 10 x 12 coil is a monster for sure. good try, td. hh,

haha, td, clever, but not convincing! i believe the target was 16" in the ground. i cannot, sir, for the life of me even imagine td digging a 16" deep hole for nothing! your're far too experienced for that. sure, the target could have been 1" deep, and fallen in the hole while you were digging it out... but i don't see that happening either!
but hey, td, it was all a test anyway, right? let me know if you'd like to sell the coil! hh,

TD the pull tab is not in the 16" hole it is on top of the handle of your shovel. From that one picture it looks like the Euro Sabre not only finds the coins but also digs them? Good detecting.....Z

A couple of weeks ago I got a weak signal, pinpointed, dug almost a foot down and found nothing. I filled the hole and left it, but two days later I was hunting there again and decided to see if I could get anything in that hole this time. Four inches down from the surface of the ground, about an inch from the wall of the hole I dug earlier, was a 1941 wheat penny at a 45 degree angle. The photo illustrates what happens when a coin is at an angle in the ground. The red arrow shows the path the tramsmitted signal takes, and the result is that an angled coin near the edge of the coil will pinpoint as though it were in the center of the coil. Widening the hole will turn up the coin, or drop it to the bottom of the hole.

Is that it was about 15" deep, at least.

I had a good signal in the center of the hole.

I do not think it was in the side. The coil I

used, as well as every Tesoro coil I've used,

pin points well.

I used an electronic pin pointer at 14", so I

think it had to be at least an inch below 14".

That would put it at at least 15" deep.

I'll stand by that.

Even though I find it hard to believe myself.

Yes I agree with you.

I have experienced things that can cause this.

A rod in the ground at the right angle can cause

the signal to be off center. Tesoro'es don't have

that problem with coins, as far as I can tell.

But anyway, that's why I widened the hole when

I got to 12". The walls of the hole were solid and

nothing was falling from the sides. Look closely

at the photo. That's slick walls that don't crumble.

Besides, Tesoro'es have little problem pin pointing

a coin at an angle. Believe me, I've dug bunches of

coins I could see were at an angle and have had few

problems pin pointing. Even a coin on edge sounds

off strong with all four of my Tesoro'es. It pin points

good with the 10X 12 as well as every Tesoro coil I've

used. This is not my first time to use the 10X12.

I have had this coil for over 6 months. I use it from

time to time. I keep learning every time I use it.

Another thing, we are not talking about a coin. The

pull tab doesn't have flat sides. It also has a tail.

My honest opinion is that it was at least 15" deep.

Even though I find it hard to believe. But I was there.

I'm not letting you dig in my yard!!! I don't think I've ever dug that deep (except maybe for iron). You should keep that machine and coil forever, but for heavens sake, teach it to find coins!!!

LOOks funny,

but it sure is lighter on the front end.:detecting:

There is a commom myth that a metal detecter sends a signal and then receives the signal that
bounces off the target like sonar or something.

That's not the case.

The MD simply emmits an elecrtonic field. As you move the coil, any conductor may cause interference
within the flux lines of that field. That interference does not bounce off anything. It is simply disrupted.

This is not the way it happens:

Although there are other things that can cause an off-set signal, that is not one of them.

You're sorta right Tabdog:). The photo illustrates an over simlplification of what happens to the transmitted electromagnetic field from a detector, but the effect a coin at an angle in the ground has is pretty much identical to what the photo shows. Any target within range of the field transmitted by the coil will disrupt it, some of the field will be absorbed by the ground, some by the target and the the rest will, in effect, bounce back toward the coil. The receive circuits measure the difference in the transmitted field and what is returned. That's also a simplification, but anyway it's described doesn't change the fact that a coin in the ground at an angle will result in it pinpointing as the photo illustrates.

I am sure glad you guys are smart enough for knowing all this complicated stuff. Thanks for sharing...:clapping:

I don't know how the elec fields react.

But that was just too simple.

I do know that strange things go on that I am only

scratching the surface of understanding.

So, I will take into acount what you are saying because

you have more experience than I am.

Besides, if I keep a closed mind about something, then

the learning stops.

Thanks for your observation,

Tabdog

OH El,

Just an old far+ thinkes he knows something.

That's me.........

If I knew what made a metal detector work,

then I wouldn't a been a Arkie Surbayer.

Duley registered in Arkie Land til I got too

stove-up to surbay.

Now I'm a bonafied Trazure Huntar.:bouncy:

Happy Hunting From Arkie Land,

Tabdog...........
