There are probably a dozen simple tweeks you can make before going out, and Jim's tip is as good as any if not better. I'll give you my idea but be careful you don't mess yourself up because everything you do from the start is the corner stone to everything that follows.
First of all if there's been no Explorers at your site before, then out of the box without changing a thing is going to net you a couple deepies with no problem, you just have to watch that depth meter and look for solid readings of 28 that are at half the depth meter or deeper. The Explorer will pic those easier silvers out right away. (You could go for the deep 4, 5, 6, 7, 26, 27, and 30's in digital if you want but 28's have been silver for me 98% of the time).
I always give this less colorful kind of advice first because I think it is important to know before you leave it behind and move on to more advanced stages, 'kinda like you have to know where you came from so you can know where your going.
Now, my tip would be to change auto sensitivity to manual and just leave the sens at 20.
If you think you can make advanced changes then take it out of Quickstart and put it into Advanced mode, this way you can make a valuable adjustment. Leave it in Digital for now. The valuable adjustment is to go into Recovery settings and set it to Deep only. Then hunt in this set up.
In a weeks time you'll be hunting in setting that everyone else uses and these startup setting will never be used in the same way again but I can tell you this, a lot of XS hunters have no idea how great the XS performs in basic modes because all they wanted to do is as Rodney siad 'now a day's everybody wants to start at the top and work sideways.' Guess it doesn't matter as long you know how great it performs at the maximum settings.
Anyway, not trying to get too deep or anything , Ha, Just go for it, no matter what you do just the fact that you have an Explorer means your well on your way to some of the greatest hunting you could ever amagine <IMG SRC="/forums/images/smile.gif" BORDER=0 ALT="
