Token find

the 1951 probably hadn't been lost long. there's still a lot of nickles from the 40-60's circulating.

It was at least 3" deep so I'm thinking that it had been there for awhile but maybe not. This area is so weird. All sorts of stuff keeps surfacing as I hunt it.There literally has to be thousands of pull tabs mixed in with iron bits in that area. I find very few square tabs, most generally they are always the beaver tail pull tabs. I started pulling iron bits with a few tabs that sound smoother than the rest. Here is some stuff I pulled out of that area and a picture of some of the stuff I found in the area today.I found a 1939 penny today with newer coins...you never know what's going to show up on any given day.I need to really get picking since the 1936 mercury dime came out of there.I know there has to be more there, somewhere.

I hunted most of the day yesterday with very few results. It rained most of the night and I'm just getting around to go again.I read that the rains usually help but it seems as though I have the opposite results, the drier the weather, the better the find ratio ?The little kids ring was unexpected,no markings but it chimed in at 88-95 on the Deleon.I know I swept that area many times previously. The unicorn was most likely scanned repeatedly as well as it was under the monkey bars.I just got a 73-81 reading so I dug it for lack of better targets found yesterday. The watch had base metal swiss on the bezel, wasn't worth the time to dig it but I was basically struggling yesterday.I am humbled by yesterdays hunt,I have been on a high for a long streak, am pleasantly humbled at not finding a lot. I doubt the place is even close to being hunted out.I am still pulling bigger iron pieces, letting the ground settle as I pull items from it that may be masking the silver.I Pulled a glass cutter and a an old metal can opener yesterday. Two items I wasn't thinking I'd find there. You never know what your going to dig up next, this is contagious.

Not a great hunt today but I found a 1945,1954,1964 nickel and a 1975 dime plus a horde of corroded zinc clinkers and a few pre '83 pennies.I don't mind digging the per '83 as they are usually salvagable. The newer ones are just plain junk.

you got the flying unicorn I see means there is some real good stuff coming out soon :bouncy:

keep digging its all there waiting to be discovered.

I didn't know whether to call it a pegasus or a unicorn..I hope real soon as within a month soon .The white fluffy stuff will appear out of thin air.The ground will begin to freeze and my digging days are numbered until late April, early May of next spring.I am still very amazed at all that I've found with my Tesoros.I believe it is mostly pure luck and it didn't hurt that I went metal detecting every free moment available.

It isn't that I am wanting to stop. I don't think the batteries will hold up under 30 degree temperatures and I won't be able to retrieve the targets through the frozen ground until spring rolls around.

Maybe I should have said temperatures bellow -1.111 celsius ? I keep forgetting your not in the US. At one point last winter I was out running in -22.778 celsius weather.

Minus 1. what and minus 22 I would go on strike too if I was a battery  I can not even comprehend what minus 22 even feels like and I sure don't want to find out and you were detecting in it??

 that's some dedication right there so in my book you deserve lots of goodies just for going outside

I was curious and been thinking about that since you posted it.I decided to test your theory.I bought 5 rolls of nickels today and this is what I pulled out of one of the rolls.I don't think it applied to the original post because that nickel was dug fairly deep for it to be a recent drop but my results from the five rolls leads me to think that you are correct on old coins still in circulation. Of the five rolls, every roll had a '64 or earlier nickel in it.

I got out this morning with the Deleon/RSD .On my way to start hunting, the rain changed to snow flurries while the stupid sun was out, shining bright in the mix. It's way too early for snow but it's so wet it didn't stick. Not much later into the hunt, it turned back to a steady rain. I found another 925 ring.was a day for quarters and pennies. It didn't take long to lose interest in the cold muddy, environment.I need to get a rain bonnet for the Deleon.I can't imagine wanting to be without the Deleon. It is near perfect for short hunts. I dug a pepsi twist bottle cap, it sounded like a good target so I dug it but that is the only thing I dug outside of the finds.

And I pulled another Buffalo nickel,1928.Two out of twenty rolls isn't bad.

Chuck provided the information. It will keep me from getting cabin fever this winter when I'm not able to metal detect. That I am am searching info on old school houses that are long gone and older places that no longer exist. There are thousand of acres of state land around my area.Someone owned it and lived somewhere on a parcel of it somewhere.Looking up old maps with the districts broken down into Hamlets that are no longer known are interesting.Unfortunately I am limited on time as to when the historical society is open but am finding different resources. What fun !

I pulled three more from a roll today. What luck, think I should have bought a lottery ticket instead.

Deleon/RSD........How is it that sometimes you are on fire ? ........and other times you are not ?....I'm trying to figure out what I am doing differently and I am seriously puzzled......This is the second Indian head that I've found. Although it is not in great condition,I am still grinning like a loon......This is the 5th Mercury dime I've pulled out of that place with the Deleon/RSD combo.Three of the pennies are wheaties.,1937,1940 and a 1944.The beaver nickel is toast, I've pulled a fair amount of Canadian change from around the area.It simply amazes me what is in the ground, waiting to be found.I've attacked the area from every direction,I am beginning to pattern a low and slothy slow coil sweep.I get a warm and fuzzy feeling when I hear the shorter faint signals, like the Deleon is telling you to dig it before it loses it's signal on it or something. One thing that I think, the fresher the batteries, the better the better find ratio but I am probably really reaching to solve the puzzle.

Way to go.....you have come a long way since your compadre investment earlier this year. You just never know what you will run across on any given outing. There is no telling what else you will dig up. Keep up the great work!!
