Toggle Switches, a suggestion

Howdy folks, not sure if anyone has suggested this here yet, but in case they hadn't - thought I would. Lol

Ok, love my machines, I have the Silver uMax and the Compadre... would not trade 'em for anything...

Within a year, with my Silver uMax, I had a problem with the toggle switch... must have got some dirt in there... anyways, Tesoro repaired fine and dandy, as they do... and it was like new.

What I immediately did though was:

> Had an old eye dropper, you know, the one with the rubber squeeze bulb. I simply yanked the rubber bulb off the dropper...
and put it over the metal toggle switch. It fit like it was made for it! Perfect. Did the same thing to my Compadre... used simple clear
silicone to keep it on, just a thin bead around the bottom, so if I ever need to remove it, the silicone should just peel off.

Anyways, its been on both machines now for over 2 years, and both machines toggles still work like say one!

So, just a suggestion for ya'll that have machines with toggle switches. Cheap mod and works fantastic! For me anyways.

I don't "think" this will hurt the warranty either, as it comes right off with no damage if needed.

Hmmm, I may even suggest to Tesoro, that they may want to look into putting a cheap rubber boot over the toggles when they are being built... can probably but them cheap enough and may save Tesoro some money in terms of free warranty repairs if the Toggles have problems, like mine did. Might be cheaper for the company... save on repairs and shipping etc.

Anyways, just thought I'd share that idea. Works great for me!

Ron

Easy prevention or fix. Thanks.

Would only add a couple bucks to the cost of making a Tesoro if they used a round shaft toggle switch.
I have yet to see one made for the flat paddle toggle Tesoro uses.
Besides black or grey boot is not as cool looking as chrome. Appearance sells.

You can get switch boot covers from Radio Shack or any electronics dealer that replace the nut holding the switch in place. It is essentially a boot cover with the nut molded right into the boot.

YEH, Where is the togel on the compadre. I cant find mine... KEN

only on the new version................... it controls the after burner mode
:surprised:

Yup.. My duh... None on my compadre.... Lol... Should have said my buddies silver... Umax... Guess I had my compadre on my mind. Anyways... Both machines for over 2 years.... No probs... Just something to consider.

Happy hunting!

Ron

can you take a pickture or it

Howdy... Here is what it looks like over 2 years later.... Pardon it being dirty... Lol. Pretty dusty out here in the desert.

But.... Inside the toggle is clean. Lol

Hope this helps.

Better photos... I think. Lol

very cool mod, will be doing it to my silver and lobo

Now that is cool.... thanks for posting!

Can you tell at a glance what position the switch is in or do you have to remember? Cause that would be a problem for me!
Great idea though!

on the silver it has 3 positions but only locks in 2 making them easy to memorize. Center/middle is "Discriminate" and Right is "All Metal" Far left is only a "Battery Tester" that when released springs back into "Discriminate" mode. I guess you could put a piece of tape below it and mark with B D and A/AM if needed.

An excellent idea, and I remember Sven posting about this half a year ago also. The last few months that I used my Tejon my descrim toggle was gumming up. I got used to flicking it on and off with a finger. I dreaded trying to find the waranty card that I never filled out 3-4 years ago, and the hassle of sending the brain box half way across North America for such a tiny issue.

What I meant was with the rubber boot over the switch, can you tell what position it is in? It hides it pretty well.

I think I found that switch. It was in my pocket.... KEN

If it is that dirty and dusty where you hunt I would also be concerned about dirt getting in the louvers on the faceplate.

That's nice but why should the customer create a "homemade fix " to a manufacturer's problem....Tesoro should be the one to put rubber boots over their toggle switches. Don't they care about getting these units shipped back because of a bit of dirt in the toggle..................boy what does it take to get a message thru !!
