Dollar tree Sunbeam batteries work like a charm. I think it might be my best coin day and I found another ring. There are no markings on the ring, I know nothing about them but sure do like finding them.

It was a good buy,Steve got me going from reading his post on coils, can buy a whole 'nuther machine for a bit more money. The turquoise stone has a crack in it, one side of the ring has a slight flat spot. I'm pretty sure it is silver.Still waiting to find a gold ring yet.The green stone looks sharp with the right light conditions, I need to learn how to clean them properly as well.

Forgive me for my enthusiasm to post crappy post . I've only started metal detecting a couple of months ago. it amazes me the stuff that can be found.

The No1 thing and also the most important is the fact that you are 'Enjoying' this great hobby of ours, nothing wrong with your posts, you are just proving that you dont require a ultra high dollar detector to not only find items but enjoying it.

Well done on some nice finds, infact i would say that you had a very good detecting session with that amount of coin and topping it off with that lovely ring.

Oh its silver and old . Cool find . I wouldnt clean it , just remove the dirt . Way to go !

Thanks for the responses. I hunt a local fair ground, this is the 197th year for the fair. The Steuben County Fair is the oldest continuously-running fair in the United States. First held in 1819, it has been held every year since. I was there today when a guy stopped by to say hello on his way to metal detecting. He has a Garrett AT, went to a spot that I have been hunting pretty hard or so I thought. I stopped by on my way out and he found a 1922 wheat back and a ring out of the same hole that the penny came from. I got to pick his brain for a bit, He was quite helpful. I need to get a pinpointer next.

Nice turquoise / silver ring! They were really popular in the '60s & '70s. Vey cool find.

Nice find. Yup a Garrett pinpointed is so solid. Make sure it beeps twice when you turn it on. There are fake out there!
There are som odentifiers on the AT pro page. They

I soaked it warm/ hot water and dish detergent and used a soft bristle tooth brush to clean it,I had multiple cleaning episodes on it before posting the pic.I also made a baking soda paste and took most of the black off of the inside portion of the silver. There are no markings inside the ring. I soak coins in baking soda solution and change it out often as the water turns black from the release of the crap off from the coins. It helps bring them back to normal color but it's a slow tedious process.

What is the best way to clean them ?

Beats me . I never cleaned one . I prefer the old patina . I heard that unmarked silver old or made by an Indian .

Yeah a pinpointed will definitely help speed up your digging. I use the Garrett AT pro pointer. Many guys use many brands. In the end that's all a matter of features but the Garrett works for me.
Once you get in the hole a pinpointed will help.
Also helps for shallow targets because on max sensitivity mine will beep when pushing on the grass with it to know exactly where it is.

here's how not to use it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QC0hwFLh93M

have a MarsMD also which is usually my day time pin pointer.

I don't get it. What was wrong about how you were using it? I didn't watch all 38 minutes of it.
But wow if your hunts are like that, you're a lucky guy. All those coins are pull tabs for me haha

I was given a Garrett pro pointer last weekend. The person had 3 of them from his Garrett MD purchases. He lent me a AT md to use for a couple of hours as well so I got to use something besides a Tesoro.

Oh cool. Like gave you the pointer to keep?!? That's really nice.
The AT is a different "style" of hunting I like to say. When a screen and other bells and whistles are involved it's a bit different.

Funny thing is I found that there's a chance of missing things with a screen detector. When it comes down to it, the vdi numbers can get skewed when there's other metal like iron near, so many people skip over those targets. But Tesoro blocks out the iron and just beeps on higher conductive stuff.

I enjoy using my Nokta with all the screens and numbers. Just a different "style". I see other machines in my future, but I live my Tesoros
