Tiny gear looking thingy

Well-known member
Dug this up this afternoon near where I got the Barber dime last week. First thought was clockworks part but wire it is on is pretty stout. Any ideas? Dime is for size reference. The two sharper looking discs are solid on wire, the flowery looking gear slides around.

Interesting...... assume its older rather than newer???

Thank you!!!

Examined the knob and the gears. I do not see any indication of writing/letters using a 10x jewelers loupe. The “wire” is flared at one end opposite the gears (similar to a finish nail) but the knob is completely loose upon it and no indication that it was attached on the end. It is a dead match for the pics provided!!
