Got Julys Lost Treas today GOLD ...

seemd kinda odd so i found the March 2010 issue was also gold..
Now i know a lot of folks are lucky enuff to have the chance
to seriously look for gold but GEEZ... I comapred W&E treas for
6 moths and they had a Lot of vaired stories and articles..
I know ive ranted before so Sorry for doin it again

I know what you mean Ranger. Wonder if theres a coin shooters mag out there?
 
I like both of those magazines sometimes, but not enough to subscribe to them. I let my W & E Tresure mag lapse last year. Too much money for me at $33.00 per year. Of course, just one tip would be enough to pay for your subscription if it paid off, but I really don't read as much as I used to.
 
I agree. I think I like about half the issues. The rest not so much. I like the gold topics, even though I don't do that, and the coin shooting articles best. Some of the historical articles are good if they're well written. In my opinion, the worst feature in LT is the questions and answers column. I've never seen a feature like this where all the author does is point the reader to other sources of information. Example. I found this button what is it? Well you might look here or here or here. That's great for the guy who submitted it but not for me. Worse yet is when the author replies that they can't tell from the poor photo. Why include it in the column then? As a reader, I'd like complete stories. I want to know what the item is! June's questions and answers were OK. I hope this trend continues. The coin section is sometimes good. What is with all the articles about collecting books lately, though? Far too many. A three part series on collecting the Red Book? What a waste. Could have been done in one part of around 1500-200 words. The field tests are almost always interesting to read. Just my two cents.

:usaflag:I just got a free trial issue of Lost Treasure/July 2010 in the mail today...and...you guessed it..it's all about gold. Still fun to read, but there are very few gold sites in Minnesota..at least in my neck of the woods.
 
Thanks Ron. I just got some bad news and that comment lightened my mood considerably. I just finished an article about coin shooting. I'm going to submit it soon.

Guess I'll have to start sending some stuff in. I get an email from Carla once a month asking for stuff. They just aren't as varied as they used to be. I used to do quite a few two--parters and I don't see them anymore. Wish they would bring Treasure Facts back as a monthly orsemi-monthly. I wrote a ton of stuff for that one.

Yeah it's too much for a catalog of advertisers as that's what it has turned into. I remember the good old days when the mags cost 50-75 cents per copy and were twice as thick as current copies and nearly 100 pages long and all stories and articles with the few ads at the back of the magazine ( I've got a collection of about a 1000 copies of the oldies going back to 1961 including original first issues of some). They even cut down the space for writers to make room for more advertising and they haven't changed the fee paid to writers in decades although everything else has gone up sky high. Here's the very first issue of Western Treasures, precursor to W&ET 85 pages long.

I graduate with my degree in Anthropology/Archaeology in December and I am going to start my own treasure hunting/consulting business. I fortunately have retirement income to help defray costs. I thought about writing a series of articles for LT and W&E about the trials and tribulations of becoming a professional treasure hunter. Do you guys think anyone would be interested?
 
Anything that helps us be better treasure hunters would be interesting, Rainman. The two subjects you studied might help someone call in the professionals and stop them from destroying a valuable site by accident.

Here's ALL the stories since inception: Well, I went out wih my (your brand) and decided to turn the discrimination way down, overlap my coil really close, and dig those "iffy" signals to see if I had been missing anything on my previous hunts. I knew this was a good spot because back in the (1800's, 1900's, whatever) there was a (landmark or building or whatever) and that there should be some good finds still there. After laying out a search pattern, I was amazed........... Nobody wants to believe that hard work is all there is to it.

Just that most are thinking that surely there is an easier
way. Maybe even that a new, or different, detector would
do the trick. All kinds of ideas running through their mind.
Well, all except one....the hard work part.

That was the objective of getting the degree. It will allow me access to areas that I would not normally be able to get to. Also I can advocate for those of us who enjoy the hobby.
 
Ron, W+E does the same thing. They devote one issue to water hunting every year. I have absolutely no interest in a mag full of water or beach stories. Why don't they just have all segments covered in every issue. I dumped the mag you are talking of a couple of years back. R.L.
 
I agree R.L. I subscribed to LT when it had all segments covered every issue. When they started focusing on only one segment each month, I dropped my suscription and told them why in a survey they sent me when trying to get me to renew. Apparently my comments did not have much of an impact. Now I buy the one coinshooting issue they print each year off the newstand and forget about LT the rest of the year. I am currently subscribing to W & E Treasures, as they still seem to cover some coinshooting in nearly every issue.

I live and detect in Kansas and I do not know of any opportunities for gold in Kansas. I do not mind some articles on beach hunting or underwater detecting/recovery, or on detecting for gold, but I don't want any issues that are entirely about those subjects.
