Time Spent Hunting

Although the winter season is upon many of us now.-----During your hunting season---(1) How many hunts do you average per week (or month)-------(2) How many hours do you average per hunt?--------Del

A lot depend on if ive found a new producing spot. For the most part 2 or 3 times a week and i like to get in at least 5 hours. But ill tell you if i had my way id be out there every day... marriage, life and the lack of a hunting buddy that can hunt during the week keeps me grounded.

You sure are asking a lot of personal questions Del. Ya think a case of cabin fever?

Ok, I'll play...Depending on the cost of gas, it takes about 6 bucks per day to break even, so I'll try to time my hunts in early mornings after weekend events..quick brooming for recent drops..beach first, then on to the parks/totlots wrapping up by noon...in the fall, I like early morning after the local football games, and have found bills blown up against the nearest downwind fence from the concession stand...I'll go every day at least a few hours very early before the World wakes up, maybe four hours per day, and twice or three times that on the weekend...I guess I've paid for the detector, and expenses, but dont think I cleared a whole lot of profit...I sold the gold for @800 bucks in Aug, still have the silver, and cash in the coins at the coinstar once per week, averaging @60 bucks..I really run and gun, I pop deeper drops really fast, and keep moving...I bet I cover five beach miles every day, really swinging wide, barefoot, hitting the main spots early, and working the side areas a little slower, LOOKING for sign in the sand, and hitting those areas like a smokejumper...now, If I was a homeless guy with a bicycle, I would be able to find enough money to survive...thats my retirement plan!

Just trying to post a few questions that might be of interest during the "slow season" Larry. :) -------What means CABIN FEVER????

Del, my average hunt is about 2 hours...sometimes a bit more, sometimes less....depends on how I'm feeling, the weather (hot or cold) and whether I'm tired and can keep up the concentration. I try to get out about 3 times per week....sometimes more, sometimes less. Sorry I cant be more specific:huh:

Until my dad got sick about a year ago I would go out about 3 or 4 times a week and I'd average about 4 to 7 hours each time out. For the last year I've been luckly to get out once or twice a week for about 3 to 5 hours. Things have been tough for the last month and I've only been out a couple of times :sadwalk:

My wife & I always hunt together and for several years we would hunt 3 to 4 times a week and would hunt 6 to 8 hrs. a hunt.------About the last 3 years we have been hunting 2 to 3 times a week about 4 to 5 hrs. a hunt.-----I guess that's what happens when you get older, we both still love to hunt though.---We have the time to hunt, just don't have the stamina we once had.---------Del

I normally hunt 1-2 times a week and I guess the avg time for all my hunts is around 3 1/2 hrs.

I pretty much hunt 7 days a week. M-F for silver and gold, 4 hours on an average hunt. On weekends I hit a couple of tot lots and usually a couple hours each hunt. So, 24-25 hours per week spent hunting. HH jim tn

When I go it's between 3 and 5 hours most of the time. If time allows I get a couple hunts in in a weeks time.

Del I detect strictly as a Hobby.... I set no goals, and no set time detecting. I use it for relaxation, and if I hit good targets it's a plus.

Jim..... you must be single. My wife doesnt hunt .... i know id be single if i got out that often. Im retired and cant get out as much as id like, i have to compromise for her hobby as well and the grand kids. I thought Del changed the subject on us there for a min... talking about less times per week and stamina:rofl: Interesting questions and more interesting to see the replies.

i'm married, but my wife is "super" forgiving to me,so i can get out whenever i want!
i KNOW i am suoer 'fortunate" in this regard,so i try to make up for this on the weekends
my plan was to retire and get out as much as possible during the "work" week"and so far,
everything's cool!..just hopin' my health doesn't go away so i can continue to enjoy this "outrageous"
hobby!

I hunt alone and as such I hunt as it pleasures me.

I try to get out twice a week in pleasant weather and hunt around two hours per trip.

There are, of course, variables.

Metal detecting is just one of my many interests.

Time must be made for all.

Coach Madden used to say, "The horse may be blind, but keep loading the cart."

I never knew what he meant by it either.

coach madden has his own unique style!
i "believe" what he meant is,,"the tougher life gets for you,the STRONGER
you MUST be"....if this IS what he means, then he's not far off the mark!

When we used to live in Tn me and dad used to hunt about usually on Fridays and the weekends, and holidays.... would usually start in March and take a break during the hot summer. These hunts were usually 6 to 8 hours long. During the summer I would hunt every once in a while for 2-3 hours.

Right now we not hunting because we do not have the time.

I hunt a couple times a week in the spring, summer and fall. Almost all day on Saturdays and for a couple hours on weekday nights when I can. We do the drive on beach every Sunday. Take the Excall with me sometimes but usually spend that day with the wife and family. Might try to get her into it this summer.

I've cut down to thirty hours per week now because if I do more then wrist/elbow or back pains mean the next week I can't manage that. If conditions warrant it (say a stripped beach) I will follow the tide both in and out so it could be a long day though I can't get away with it like I could once.
If its a land hunt you put in as much time as you can because its just so expensive for the fuel to get anywhere. Got to be at least three times as expensive as the States and though we have lots of old things to find, most, even if 2000 years old, are worth almost nothing.

I don't really have a winter season. When the bad weather hit this year I cleared off to Italy and in a couple of weeks its back to the Caribbean.

Waitin for you Larry----Time to "fess up", you'll feel better!----How many???----We've GOT to know!!!  --------Del
