Time For Another One Of Those "Crawl Out Of The Woodwork" Posts To Introduce Yourself

Once in a while these posts get made. Some of us notice that there are MANY readers of threads yet very few posts. That tells me there are about 100 times (roughly) more lurkers than posters. Heck, I was even told by one guy privately that he makes all kinds of great finds with his GT but is scared to death to post about them for fear of the IRS. A fear I think is unrational, because as far as I know they can't tax you unless you sell it, and even then it has to be a good chunk of cash for them to even be interested I think.

Anyway, so here it is...You don't have to even say much. Just post maybe what general state you hunt in, what you hunt for and where (land or water), and maybe what you do for a living.

If you don't even want to go that far, at least just say "HI...I am here" and tell us what machine you use. Come on people. More than any other forum, I notice that Sovereign users tend to be laid back, quiet, and not very flashy about things. I think that is what attracts them to this machine. Sure, it doesn't have a lot of "bling" to it, but darn if it isn't the deepest or more coin sniffing in iron detector many people have ever used...More expensive or more flashy machines or not.

So what do you say? Post at least a short "Hi" and tell us you exist and lurk on here in the dark corners to listen to all the chatter. Sure, I'm sure many of you wish some people like me would just shut my pie hole, but at least tell us you are lurking about and reading...In the shadows...

I'm Matt from Pennsylvania, I hunt for coins mostly. I ask dumb newbie questions and learn a lot from everyone here. Thanks. HH. Matt

Well, that's one at least. Guess I'll add mine...

I live near Cleveland. Mostly old coin hunt, but go after land rings too here and there. In the summer I do some chest mounted waiding with the GT on some of the Lake Erie beaches, of which there are many within about 20 miles of me. Also blessed with some smaller fresh water lakes nearby to water hunt as well, but I honestly don't water hunt as much as I should. Around here they'll let you water hunt as long as you get there at sunrise and only stay for a few hours before people start to show up to swim. I'm not an early morning kind of guy, so it's a struggle to head out for a early morning water hunt.

Hi, this is Steve from Sterling Va. I'm lucky to live in an area that offers a little bit of everything from Civil War relics (land and river hunts) to old coins and jewelry. Also, I'm been very fortunate to have met several folks from this forum and my local MD club that I enjoy hunting with. I try to get out every weekend at least for a couple hours to pursue this great hobby of ours. Always looking for new friends and places to hunt. In the next couple months, I will be attending an organized weekend hunt in Culpepper Va to hunt for some CW relics, going to Bald Head Island for a week long beach hunt, and the OBX area near Duck NC for the long Labor Day weekend (whole summers worth of goodies to find). I hope these hunts are successful and I can share my finds with everyone.

I've been detecting since 1973 and currently use the Minelab E-Trac and the Excal II. I have my dad to thank for getting me hooked on dirt fishing. I've been keeping my eye on the Metal Detector Classified to see if I can pick up a good used Garrett Infinium LS before the Culpepper hunt to help cut through the hot rock and red clay that limits the effectiveness of the VLF detectors. So, if anyone is thinking about selling their LS, let me know.

If anyone lives near the Sterling Va (Northern Virginia) area and would like to join me on a hunt sometime, just shoot me a PM.

I'm Gary from southern Mn. I've been detecting off and on since 1976. I quit for quite a few years before taking it back up 4 years ago. I own one detector and it's the GT.
Good luck Gary

Ok, I've been a lurker forever on here, I think it's a great place to get good information about various machines. I recently bought a Elite and have been going back through the posts trying to learn as much as I could about the machine. I've noticed that pretty much every question I have had is answered at some point in this area, not to mention some questions I didn't even realize I had :D and I will say a HUGE "Thank You" to everyone that has posted here. It has made my learning curve a heck of a lot easier and cut my frustration way down. So once again thank you for a great forum.

I always pity people who have to search through all the old threads to find stuff. Just a mess of stuff to sift through, even if you use the perfect key words in the search, and having to blow by my long winded posts doesn't help in finding what you really are looking for on a particular subject. That's one of the reasons why I'm happy as pie that we have an active moderator in this forum now like Ron, as he's doing a great job throwing up stickys for the most common subjects that gets asked about. I guess when the coil sticky is done he might do the Excal/Sov battery sticky thing as those questions creep up alot about how to use the charger, how long it takes to charge, and so on. That's going to be of great help to a lot of people. Just think of all those potential Sovereign owners out there in the past that have skimmed this forum and couldn't find good info on say the VDI charts, or even the fact that you could put a meter on a Sovereign for that matter!

Hey, that reminds me...Not sure if it's been put in the Excal sticky yet or not, but some of you heavy hitter beach guys who have some great tips for it like the PP mode hunting thing should throw them up there in it for others to gleam off of. Same deal for the Sovereign sticky in basic control functions and stuff and how to use them and a few tips if that hasn't been done (don't remember if it was).

I've been working on Electromechanics troubleshooting cinse 1986, English is not my main language but I have been able to Know enough to communicate with the public so please forget my spelling.
metal detecting for me is a reife from my hard day at work and I try to do MD each time I have chance to do it, some times even on my lunch hour I get to the closest park to hunt and alleviate my stress from work.
I have been detecting for this year but I own detectors for long time which I send to my Father to my native country and he likes to play with them, out there I own a DFX, TM-808 and a Garrett CXIII with is the first detector I purchase when they came out new.
here at Home I own a GT, Etrac and T2, the T2 is my wife's Connie metal detector which some times she cames along to hunt with me.
My wife and I are active members of a local Club "ORETS" and we like to go out on the hunts that are organize each month, Next month we are having our club party and we will have a park loaded with silver coins and a lot more items for the hunt including a Garrett MD to a lucky winner, It is a great club and the members are great and help full.
so far for this few months on this year I have been Lucky to find some silver and gold as well but I have put more hours to the hobby that ever before.
Thank you!

Abel, your english was fine. Good luck at your club hunt next month. Hope you come home with a brand new Garrett. It's great that you get to enjoy this wonderful hobby with your better half. Good luck and happy hunting.

I have been posting here for years.
I use ( and swear by until the world ends) a Sovereign GT.
I mostly like to hut Colonial items but can not ignore the Summer beach Gold.
. I have my GT set up for any situation. Water, beach, and inland.

I'm Mark, I live in Perth In Western Australia.
I've been detecting on and of since 1986. I currently use a E Trac and a Excalibur 11. In summer I hit the beaches and once the weather cools down, like now I am into the parks in search of old coins.
I have tried diving with my Excal and enjoyed that so plan on doing more of that this year as well.

Regards,

Mark

I,m chuck I live in washington state near hood canal just got my GT sure like it . I want to do some beach hunting and parks. this is a great site

Howdy, I'm John in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Right next to Albuquerque. I been detecting for almost 25 years. Always used White's detectors until I got the X-70 which evantually led to the GT a couple of months ago. Most of my heavy detecting time has been in Bishop, California with my brother. We used to hunt old homesites that over the years provided us with a bushels of goodies. As a matter of fact I had never hunted any parks until I moved to New Mexico because of my wife's health. Anyway, I'm a retired U.S.P.S Postmaster and disabled Vietnam Veteran. I enjoy everyday to the fullest extent even if I don't go detecting. My favorite time of the month is when I meet with other Vietnam Veterans and get a chance to laugh and relax. Now, if there wasn't so much private property in New Mexico I could really get into again with the new GT. Good Luck to all.

Hello, my name is Rick. I live in South Central Pa. I use a Minelab Excal II , Tesoro Cortez and Tesoro Compadre. Been detecting off and on since 1973. Due to cost of gas and toll fees, I only get to the beach maybe twice a year anymore. Will be in Ocean City NJ in Sept so will post my finds at that time.

Welcome to everbody. I see some posts here and there from guys who have been registered on Findmall for years and yet their post count is super low. Always nice to hear from those guys who rarely post. Those are the thinkers. The ones who read and quietly lurk without making any remarks.

Greetings! I'm David. Chicagoland area. Clad hunt mostly, and whatever else turns up. Excal user and just got a new GT, S-1 probe, digisearch meter and 13in ultimate coil.

BTW-
It's all Critter's fault! lol. I've been 'lurking', reading his posts and that's how I got roped into getting a GT. His insight and analysis made me pull the trigger. Many sincere thanks!
He helped me justify turning a"want" into a "need!" :)

HA! I'm sure many more have read my posts and went the other way on that and decided NOT to buy a Sovereign. That only means when you begin to hate the machine you'll have me to blame for roping you in. Well, since you already use an Excal the transition shouldn't be too hard. Welcome to the show. Of all the machines I've owned or used, Minelab or not, the GT is where it's at for me. I always have confidence it's getting as deep as it gets and also unmasking stuff that way too, and in particular with the 12x10.

Glad you didn't let the audio in the Sovereign model stickys turn you off. The audio is much better than the lousy audio from the speaker for filming, as was very flat and fuzzy sounding too in those videos. Also glad you didn't let the one video about masking with a nail turn you off. Nobody swings that fast with a Minelab. I really think that video alone might hurt the sales of people considering buying a Sovereign. It will unmask right up against a nail, and Iron Mask will pull coins out of iron laying with them like no other machine I've owned IMO. The one video also makes it look like you have to ground balance in all metal to use discrimination or PP mode. Hope, that's only used for hunting in All Metal Fixed, by first setting it in tracking mode. That sticky is closed, but I wish we could insert a few notes above those videos so people know these things. I feel it might turn a lot of people off otherwise.

Can I ask...Where did you get your hands on the Sovereign version of the 13" Ultimate? So far Kellyco far as I know is still waiting on the Sovereign version to come in, and from over seas it seems like at least some sources won't ship to the US.
