>MINELABS< anyone get a response?

Mainly the personal attacks and defense but still an essential part of a healthy debate. Looks like 3 of GR's posts were deleted, 2 of Adam's and one by VietnamVet. I could have missed 1, can't say for sure.
2 plus 2 equals 5, RIGHT WINSTON!

Might depend on what kind of questions that you are asking. I asked a couple of questions one time and was referred to this forum......the person I talked to did not personally use a Sov (although he repairs them).
Minelab won't tell you about plans for updates or new detectors. They don't usually tell dealers about that stuff either.

Also this is their busy season at the repair shop. They can really get behind. You might give them a break.

It seems like the posts I make when my meds are tailing off that always get removed ......GEE !!! Paitnets report to the pharmacy !!!:beers: :ban:

Glad you noticed that bda.

What you are saying is very true. I do suspect they are busy in repair division.

Im sure the other companies have their own problems as well.

It would be unrealistic to expect every single one of everyones products to work flawlessly straight out of the box, and for the lifetime of the owner.

Then there is the problem of making a product that can't be ruined through neglect or abuse. Not going to happen.

If your detector is faulty, they will fix it. If your problems are self inflicted, they will still fix it, but it will cost you bucks.
If your detector works and you take good care of it, you should not have much to worry about.

If your communications with them are civilized, they will take good care of you.

By the way, do you want a battery pack that only has to be charged once and will work forever without a recharge?

Don't look like all that many quality issues to me.

HH

Art:

You could be right, they could be really busy.

GR:

You are also right in that they wouldn't be so busy in the repair shop if they put time into the product up front.

Everybody has standards, some are just higher than others. This isn't a judgement just an observation. I take a great deal of pride in my work and expect the same level of committment in others.
Some people are involved peripherally others are committed whole heartedly, to each their own.

The difference between being involved and being committed is like a ham and eggs breakfast. The chicken was involved but the pig was committed!:crylol:

Be Kewl Guys,

PS: Still counting down the time to my phone call to Minelab.

Quite a few of you all have the perceived notion that you can come on the forum here, and say what you want, slamming a sponsor,(s) at will. It

Every minute spent here on the forums could be time spent in the field.

Are you saying I can't post something like what just happened to me and my new Excall I paid a $1000 for with the blue Headphones that were not a quality piece of equipment in my mind. That they would spin around on the adjustment part and you got a lot of wind noise because they did not fit right because of the hard muff part. I was so Pi$$ed I sent them back to my dealer (he is a Sponsor here) and my dealer replaced them with a new Excal that had the new head Yellow Headphones which are 100% better then the junky blue ones. I don't spend a $1000 on something like that. My dealer knows that. He replaced the Excall as it was the right thing to do. The only reason I knew about the junky headphones was due to reading all the problems people were having with them. Same with the Battery thing. that is why I ordered a backup alkaline battery pack because when I go water hunting I hunt all day and I am there for the gold, period. I am not about to spend $1000 on something I am not going to be happy with. Without these forms and guys posting the problems that they are having with there equipment and not being allowed to post such problems then I think that that does a injustice to the guys that are here to not only learn about there detector but, to learn about the problems that they might run into if they buy the product. I am not talking about bad mouthing a product. I am talking about pointing out problems with a product so the buyer will be able to make a intelligent decision when he wants to buy the product. Hell, I bought the Excall 1000 paid my $1000 even with all the problems that they have. Why because I know it is a good detector even with the problems that it has. Maybe a newbie would not feel the same way therefor would not be comfortable spending that kind of money. Then having to spend more to make there detector better. When the Manufacture could fix all these problems easily . I will say I would not have bought the Excall 1000 detector if I had not gotten a Free extra 2 year warranty on the Excal. I have had my Explorer ll since they came out. I just bought a Xterra 70 a little while back. I really enjoy the Xterra 70. Have to say better then my Explorer ll. For various reasons. The way I read your post is that we can not post any negative about a product on these forms even if, it is for informative information for the guys and Ladies that read this forum. I read the Find mall forums so I can get information on detectors good or bad so I can make a intelligent decision when I Have to spend a $1000 on a detector I just want to know what I am getting and I can't do that if I can't get the straight scoop on a detector. You can't base your decision on Dealers no matter how good they are, as they don't hunt with the detector Evey day like these guys do. Bill, again I am not talking about bad mouthing a detector or anyone. Really I am talking about constructive criticism good and bad so as to help a person make a right decision about whether they are going to spend money on the detector in question. BTW M/L is putting the new Yellow Koss phones on the Excall's now. My point is, there is a difference between griping and bitching about a product, then having constructive criticism posted about problems on a product. How are we to be informed if not from these Forums. . I am interested in your answer. Thanks you for you time. Jerry aka Tinfoil

Hi Jerry

I do agree with this, and constructive criticism is good. I believe I mentioned that I was in agreement with what was being said. Turning it into a gripe & bitch session that runs into name calling is not. Just on this thread I must have thrown out 50% of the post, and still look where it went.

Somewhere there has to be a compromise made. This forum has run for a long time without many problems. It appears lately that it has inherited a few agitator's. We'll take care of the agitators, and hopefully it will return to a more reasonable state.

I certainly take no pleasure, nor do I have anything to gain by making a decision to moderate this forum. It's a dam if I do, dam if I don't position, but it's what I agreed to do for Find Mall. Is this always cast in stone, no it never is that easy. I don't have all the answers, but we do try to smooth things out in the long run.

You all have a nice day :)

Bill

"I disagree with what the gentleman has to say, but I will defend to the death his right to say it." John Quincey Adams

The original founding fathers of your great nation were labelled as Agitators by the british establishment, Mahatma Ghandi was branded an upstart troublemaker and Martin Luther King was viewed as nothing but a rabble rousing preacher at one point in history. The point everyone was trying to make is that we want the process to get better not just have a navel gazing contest about how wonderful our Excals are in a blue skies and puffy white clouds kind of world.

The job of moderator is no fun and I know it, but we all over reacted to one degree or another. Booting Goldringer off the forum for expressing his views strongly is a loss of experience and knowledge to the rest of the metal detecting community and I for one am sorry to see him go.

I understand your position but I don't agree with it.

Kind Regards,

Eric Wainwright

Its fine to quote our forefathers and other great men, but first you need to know what your quoting.

We (the folks scattered all over the place using the forum), get to come here for FREE and learn/share information about this wonderful hobby. I have never got a bill from findmall or ever sent the Guv any money, but he still lets me hang out here. Why?.. a love of the hobby, and support of sponsors.

Fact of life is somebody has to foot the bill for server space and bandwidth usage. I think Mr. Bill has been as diplomatic as a human can be, and yet tried to let folks voice their concerns and complaints in a "civilized" manner. Since this place is owned by someone, they can decide what stays and what does not. If we (the users) tick off all the sponsors... they will pull support and we lose a wonderful place. I personally have been amazed they let as many sponsor criticisms stay as they have. That by itself tells me they really do care about the hobby and want it to continue to improve.

I know that I feel very, very lucky to have the Findmall to learn new stuff and share the fun with other detectorists. If that means keeping sponsors happy... so be it. My hat's off to all the forum moderators for a job well done at walking the line and keeping the peace.

Just my humble opinion..

Goldringer has left the forum and that is unfortunate. I am told and believe to be true that Goldringer left of his own accord and I respect that. I also respect Bill Crabtree's handling of the issue given the facts at hand, it is never an easy job being moderator, especially of a forum full of highly individualistic people such as this one.
Should I personally find that this forum's guidelines of political correctness are too constraining for me I will also leave but I won't leave without sending a fond farewell to the many wonderful individuals I have been blessed to have shared this hobby with on this forum.
Freedom is what you make of it and it does need some level of constraint for it to be fair and equitable to all.
My thanks once again to Bill C. for putting up with the foolishness that marred this thread.
My regrets at the loss of Goldringer's input, we are all a little less for it.

Cheers,

BDA:cool:

PS: Weather permitting I'm going to get out on the water and get myself some gold tonight.
