A knob type threshold like the Sovereign has is about the best you can get because you can slowly fine tune the threshold. A button adjustment in increments is just not the same but I love a the threshold because as said previously the "null" you get gives you another clue as to what is going on in the ground.

@Picketwire Don't forget that the Threshold volume is also effected by the Master detector volume AND Headphone volume control on the side of the ear cup. It does take a bit of fiddling to balance all the different volume levels The Legend has to get it just right for yourself. I can count 6 different volume controls available plus Audio Gain!

I just bought a new Legend and updated to 1.09 and the threshold update. My only problem with the threshold on the wireless is that at my settings, 4 on the threshold is louder than I like but at three, I can't hear it at all. I wish they would have made it capable of finer tuning. I like having it on so I accept it like it is but would like it much better if holding the up button made it louder and holding the down button made it quieter kind of like a potentiometer on other detectors. That's just my opinion.

Thanks for the advice JCR. I have been fiddling some but it would sure be nice if it was on a sliding scale no matter the detector or headphone volume. It's not a deal killer and I am sure if it wasn't available in discrimination mode, I would get along just fine. I sure do like how it nulls. When searching for nuggets, it could be quite valuable.

Yeah i wish it was that price when i got mine.
What you get for the price is really too good to pass up even if you never considered buying one before.
Maybe the Nox will go down some more to that point i am consider getting one that would be limited to dry use only.
Im sure its a great machine but for my use would have to come down some more as a second detector.
Just not a very target rich area. If you want to even think about it paying for itself the beach is kind of a must.

the threshold takes some playing with to get it suitable to detect for gold nuggets,

what I ended up doing is setting the volume in the Legend to 6 (this is the only way threshold seems to work all the way across the board) set the threshold to what ever is audible level is rite for you, then set the threshold pitch to either make the volume of it more loud or more quite so it is a three setting process to get it correct and the headphones you are using plays a big part in all of the settings.

So picket how has the legend been comparing? What did you use previously

I've only had it for a couple of days so I really can't compare yet. Lately, I have been using my Deus, T2 with Detech Arrow coil, and a Vanquish. I have over a dozen fairly modern ones and like them all.

I think every detector is a good detector each has its own uses its good for.

So far, it is impressive. Even though it is brand new, it was version 1.07 which was disappointing. Updating was frustrating but successful. I have changed Park to 4 tone, second tone breaks barely after nickel, third just past Lincoln's, first backed up to 8 and use discrimination pattern A or G. I have lowered tones because I like them that way and am running a threshold with the tone lowered a little. Field I have turned to 60 tone and also lowered the tones and also use disc pattern A or G. Park uses M1, Field M2. These settings are similar to what I like with the Deus and Impact. The VIDs seem very steady and accurate deeper than some of the others but they can mislead. I have much more faith in the sounds which are very descriptive, much like my Deus and Outlaw. So far, I think it is a great deal for the price. Like you say, time will tell.

Personally i like modes A or G. And everyone seems to think M2 is better than M1 especially on small gold and in some case depth. Park M2 seems to be the preferred combo.
I don’t know if you got the pro pack but the consensus is the 6” coil on the legend is very impressive especially on depth for its size, almost as deep as the 11” as well as separation and smaller targets. Might be a good investment if you didn’t.

I guess it also depends what you are hunting. M1 will probably work better for coins and M2 for jewelry. I just prefer the latter jewelry over coins

Try M3, especially if you have some minerals in your soil, doubly especially if the mineralized soil is somewhat wet. Single 4kHz works the best for me in Al trash. Pretty much ignores foil and noticeably desensitizes the Aluminum. TIDs will be down averaged, just dig 35 & up and you will be surprised at how it unmasks.

Thanks for the advice JCR. My soil is very mineralized. I will for sure try it out.

When I first got my Deus, I laid a quarter and an aluminum tab on the floor about 6 or 8 inches apart. At 18khz the tab was much louder. When I switched to 4khz the quarter was louder. It was quite an eye opener for me. That's what I use a lot in parks looking for coins. I turned ID Norm off so that the VID spread was wider on the top end. The impact DI4 is set up the same way. On the forums some people say they don't like the Deus because everything good has a VID in the 90s. They must not have any idea what ID Norm does. At 4khz, the Deus reads about 82 on a quarter and 58 on a zinc penny. I have so many different VID scales that I keep a zinc and copper penny, nickel, dime, and quarter in my pocket all the time to throw on the ground to refresh my memory. They say that memory loss is one of the three signs of getting old. I don't remember the other too, though.

The new M3 setting is only in the settings of park and field modes, not in the beach mode or gold mode in beach mode it is multi dry (MD), or multi wet (MW) also in Gold mode M3 is not available gold mode runs Multi frequency 20 and 40 KHz together or single frequencies of 20 and 40 KHz

Just recently upgraded to 1.09 that added M3, Curious as to the differences.
I understood it as M1 might combine maybe two lower frequencies like 4khz and 10khz and M2 might combine higher 15khz and 20khz so what do you think M3 did. I don’t know if we will ever know exactly

M3 has a subtraction feature for wet/conductive ground. It makes a noticeable difference on a wet site. Guessing it is running 4 & 15 kHz. M1 at 10 & 20, M2 at 20 & 40. All guesses from testing observations.

only Nokta/Macro can answer your question as to what each multi is weighted to I will say with the new M3 setting when the ground is moist that I hunt on anyway the Legend seems to run quite a bit more stable then just running in say M1 or M2

I do not run beach mode because I have no salt beaches to detect here, and most of the time I am running in Gold mode multi or I switch to one of the single frequencies 20 or 40 KHz when I am in gold mode I run A (All Metal) and some times I will run G ( ground Off) I only run the G mode when the ground gets a little to noisy,I do sometimes detect in Park or field mode that I have set up Two custom user settings in park and one in field park, I actually set up two custom user settings one for deep high conductors and one for everything else the deep high conductors I run pitch tones the one for everything else I run four tones, I also run with the threshold because a threshold gives you a lot of info on your discriminated targets which I do have some discrimination set when running in my custom user settings and also my deep silver high conductors settings

it did take me a bit of playing with the threshold to get it to finally work like I think it should, the threshold on the Legend when using wireless headphones is all dependent on the head phones you choose to use and the volume in the Legend that you choose to run with, max volume in the legend worries me though because of the known speaker issues, which I have not personally experienced as of yet but when running the legend with the threshold you pretty much have no choice when using the wireless headphones.

I really do not get into the technical aspects of things in a detector i just fiddle with the settings until I get it stable and that is what I detect with
