Three oldest categories done in 20 minutes!

Well-known member
Yesterday jkline and his youngest son and I went back up to the AdLawn. They split up and went different directions and went to finish my previous weeks gridding area. All said and done I pulled up 11 quarters, 11 dimes, 2 nickels, 3 memorials, and 17 zincolns. Not bad for me I must confess.
Jeff’s boy pulls up a 14k sorority pin dated 1952 and Jeff walks away with something like 21 cents. I love it!!!
Decided to go back at it this morning. I was working on about 50 cents after an hour or more when I got a nice penny sound about 5” deep so that was hopeful. Pulled up a nice greenish penny so new it was going to be a wheat, about fell over when I saw it was 1911S clear as a bell on the front! Had to text Jeff a my hero shot…….
The area quickly began to get sparse so headed towards the other side of the AdBldg. Almost immediately started getting EMI (which we knew was in that area) so tried to get around it and partially was successful. The F75 has the option of switching frequencies F1 (primary) up to F7 to skirt the noise. At F3 it was almost totally gone so back to a wandering pattern. I know both Jeff and I have been through this area numerous times. I’m starting to point towards the car as its time for me to head home. Jeff and Ben text they are done and heading out. About a minute later I get a solid 65 reading at 5” so dive in, out comes an Indian Head and I can make out 189x so start cleaning lightly and out comes a 6 so 1896!
Fill the plug and rescan. High hit at 6” and maybe a quarter so start a new plug, up comes a nail. Fill and rescan, another quarter signal and another nail. Keep going I tell myself….. this time I get penny hit at 6”. Up comes a 1925 wheat. I keep circling the IH plug and get yet another nail pulled out and then once more. About to call it when I get nickel hit. So far I’m inside a 10-12’ diameter circle mind you. Up comes a round slug looking metal disc so I start cleaning it and eventually can see the V coming through, are you kidding me? A quick scan and all is quiet now.
Get home and put the nickel in Elmy’s Super Secret potion. Nickel begins to cleanup rapidly so left in the sauce for maybe three minutes and used the toothbrush to brush it all off, 1893!!!!!

Im absolutely astonished at what just happened in about 20 minutes. Two 1890s coins that we all have gone over several times!!! I believe quieting the EMI, pulling the nails, and just staying with the signals is what got me the recoveries.
So today was three oldest coins to date, 1911S wheat (which has value and will make V3 grade if done), 1896 IH, and 1893 V nickel!!!
Beer gonna taste super good tonight!!

Only other two things to come out of the immediate lawn area was another copper cannon fuse and a cupped button. The button is marked Shanhouse, Rockford Illinois. Back side says patent December 1924, interesting read if you look it up the history of the company.

Very nice hunting ! Just what coil is stuck on that F75SE ?

SEL 12x10 Butterfly for the coil.

Took a little elbow grease to get the shotgun case head to clean up enough to identify. Made only for four years and fits right in with the 1890s coins found in same basic area!! Gotta love this sport…….

Yes, the shotshell heads are always interesting finds because you can date them. What is Elmy's Super Secret Potion? Most of my old Nickels are hard to clean or read.

Congrats on the oldies…that is why I rarely give up on any place that has payed out in the past..also it’s a great feeling when you can squeak a few more keepers out of a spot many would have given up for dead…

JCR, Elmy swore me to secrecy. He said if I ever divulged his secret he would make sure I would forever be playing “catch up” to those I associate with while detecting. 😉

Must be rally good stuff!
