Thoughts on metal detecting

hello everybody, ive been detecting a long time now, and cant remember the last time i didnt have fun at it. ive owned pricey and cheap machines, had good days and bad days, mostly good. here in central va. you can go almost anywhere and find cw stuff. i dont refuse or discount any land that i hunt - the next big thing might be 3 in. in the ground! i go wherever i think a man has walked - which is everywhere. here lately, ive noticed that many of the guys will put their coil on the ground, hunt 10 min. find nothing and go home. whats up with that? what happened to being patient and methodical? a long post, and thanx for reading, hh

Hi Gray Ghost,

May be those guys that just hunt for ten minutes and quit are frustrated. They read that with the MD they bought, they could see what's in the ground before they dig it.

That's appealing to people's desire for instant gratification. When they walk out there with their dumb settings on their MD and don't find anything real quick, well so much for instant gratification. They don't realize that real gratification comes from a sense of accomplishing a difficult task. That takes time and effort.

That's why us serious guys love our hobby so much. At least that's how I feel about it.

I know I'm not alone because I can feel people's excitement on this forum. It's hart warming to see mature grown men act like little kids with excitement over their MD's and what they do with them. I'm sure to outsiders we look like old fuddy buddys playing with our toys.

I for one resemble that remark:super:

Happy Hunting to all you old Fuddy Buddys out there,
