Thought this was my first gold coin. It IS definitely gold...but WHAT is it??

You must be bored mate...digging all the low stuf lately:clapping: That is one good dig and I'm betting on a hand made token that didn't get finished.

I'm 75% sure that's a love token bud...and a rare one at that because it's GOLD!
You have me ready to hit our stagecoach site again and try some lower hits:thumbup: Let's try it one more time before the ground freezes on us.

Gold is good no matter what it is buddy. Since it's worn and thin with no grooves on the edge I too think it is a love token. I can see where the person has carved what looks like a "marsh" or grass and also see the plant.
Possibly unfinished because a soldier was rushed into battle? Hey you never know the story that could be involved with it.

it is an unfinished love token as many of you suggested.....and I consider it one of my most unique finds.

Thanks for all of your opinions on what it could be.

I hope we are all able to squeak in another hunt before the ground freezes on us.

WTG Bryce! I'm a little surprised that is your first gold coin/token...as I know your the King of deep Silver there must be some gold out there too. I'm currious what number you had at the time of dig and if you thought it wouild be gold or not when you first started digging it?

Bryce, thanks for so many great and fun times on the fourm You Rock!

Thanks for the kind words brother.

I have no idea what the numbers were as I am 100% a smartscreen hunter and havent glanced at a "flashing" number on the SE since day 1.

I am also 100% a "sound" hunter and only use the screen as an additional tool.

Did it sound like it "could be gold to me". No...it honestly sounded like the other 38 pieces of crap I had already dug.

Nice to see ya' postin' again my friend.

Thanks for responding

That's a awesome find! Hope you find out what it is! I agree with the above post. Looks like it could be a unfinished love token.

Smartscreen hunter eh, you go mostly by sounds, uh er Bryce just to let you know NJ sucks man you don't want to come out here to detect, complete waste of time. :look:

Cool find, congrats!

Gold is Good! Nice find Bryce. Kinda made diggin' up the junk worthwhile! I think the same thing when I dig up shotgun shells. I usually dig 10-15 at this site, before I decide to quit diggin' 'em until next time!

Thanks for the pictures.

Hey we all get lucky sometimes. Well I don't...but I'm glad for those who do.
My money is riding on a love token as many of the others feel. Great find and thanks for the chuckle.

Bryce

As many have posted that it's love charm made from either a coin or the back of a gold watch cover. Definitely custom made. If the gold is at least 22Kt as American coins are minted, then it's a keep sake love token. I've seen seated, and other coins smooth out on one side with either a design like yours or initials with and without the coins face or back... really nice find there... WTG...

This is a love token. Probably civil war period or just after. Mnay soldiers would take five and ten dollar gold coins and have them made into various designs to be sent home to wives and sweethearts. I've seen them made out of fives and tens never seen one made out of a twenty before though. I've also seen them made out of silver coins. That's a very sweet find. Keep looking in that area and you will probably find some war relics.
