Thought this was my first gold coin. It IS definitely gold...but WHAT is it??

I hit the field site again saturday before the cold and rain came.
I had absolutely nothing to chase other than low hits...and I dug a ton of junk.

I then got this...and let me tell you I thought for sure I had found my first gold coin. After closer inspection though...it is not a coin of any kind...I dont think. I spit shined most of the dirt off and this is exactly how this came from about 6" down.

It is very worn and been nicked by a disc or plow in a couple of spots but it is solid all the way through. I ran an acid test on it and it is at least 14k.

It looks like there is an engraving of grass and some type of plant growing up towards the bottom of one side...ut nothing else. The back is completely smooth.

What the heck could it be??....an old wristwatch face?....any ideas?

Those low tones are getting to be more palatable with the gold you recovered recently....................nice find.......................John

I'm thinking maybe it's something from an oriental country, or from someone who was in an oriental country. I think of reeds and I think Vietnam. Probably way off, just my opinion.

BRYCE ,I WOULD GUESS IT TO BE PART OF A SMALL SIZE WATCH,THEY MADE SOME LIKE THAT BACK IN THE DAY
AND I HAVE HAD SEVERAL OVER THE TEARS THAT LOOKED A LOT LIKE THAT---REGARDLESS YOU
HAVE A NICE FIND AND GOOD JOB ,,HOPE YOU FIND OUT FOR SURE ,,,,,,,,CURT

That definitely looks like a cat tail plant and the way the bottom portion is smoothed off left to right looks like a lake surface. I am thinking unfinished love token for sure. Does it match up with the diameter of any US gold coins? If it does, then that is another point toward the love token side. Nice find Bryce! WTG!

My only gold coin is most likely a counterfeit, one dollar.

Take care and HH - BF

I have seen something similar set in a womans coin ring. I think I may still have it. Will look tonight and let you know.

Gold is gold..great find.

Really cool find buddy. I can't figure out what it might be. I can make out some plants like you said though.

It was pretty common for people to shave coins off smooth and carve them into love tokens and such, you have an ultra rare gold version that someone never finished. Put some dial calipers on it and see if the diameter matches any US gold coins?

Neat find Bryce! Gold is gold. And just imagine; what you found is actually more rare than the standard coin, right?
