We found a camp where the Rangers had been a few weeks before and we dug up there trash pit. They threw away spaghetti and meatballs and there was stew and even some kind of dessert cake. We took all the cans except the dessert and mixed them all in pot we had and divided it up. We went through in December and even though it was Florida it was quite cold. We were in flight suits and flight jackets and wearing hunter orange vests. When you are really hungry and you have a choice of C rats or trying to catch a snake or a fish, heck that C rat wins out every time!!!

Memories came flooding when I read this thread. 68/69 was my tour time and haven't eaten a C, seen a P38, or M14 since. I was with the 188th Ordinance bangin around from Quin Yon, An Khe, Kontum, Pleiku, and Dak To after processing through Cam Rahn when I first arrived. Was glad to get back to the World. The only places I got c's were in Dak To or An Khe as the others had Mess halls. Sometimes the C's were better than the Chow Hall. They didn't have the bugs and sand mixed in like the Mess. Doesn't seem like that many years ago really. I would like to spend some time there again just for old times sake. Just maybe, I will someday.
