This new coil is amazing!

I've been hunting with my new coil (11"DD) and today I found my first ever class ring and second gold ring in two weeks! I got a 45-48 tab signal on the F70 and dug up this nice chunk of 10K gold. It was down about 3-4 inches. It's from the class of 1979 from the local high school in my area. It weighs in at 10.3 grams. I'm not sure if the rim was broke before I dug it or if my Lesche digger caught it, but gold is gold and it still weighs the same intact or not. Thanks for looking and happy hunting to all!

What a great find !!!!!!!!!

Get it melted for a couple of hundred dollars or get it back to the owner. They may give you a good or bad tip for finding it.

Either way, that was an exciting day. A day that keeps dreams alive.

Told you, told you, told you.
Hate to say I told you so...wait, sorry, that is some other guy, me...I love to do that!
Told you this bigger coil makes it hard to miss stuff!

CongratZ!

REVIER, you're the man! I couldn't have done it without you.

Also, I wanted to mention that I misspoke earlier. The gold ring I found last week was with my concentric coil. In fact, I found that one the night before getting the DD. Apparently I was so excited to get the class ring that my mind was a bit cloudy, lol!

That ring is enough to paid for that new coil, super find right there. Most of those class rings are worth over 200$.

I looked it up, according to scrap price it's worth $180. I told my wife that the ring just paid for the coil, lol

I know people like find enough money and jeweler to pay for their detectors, but returning a long lost class ring makes people believe in humanity. A really good feeling!

I agree with what you are saying, but this ring is worn pretty bad. On the face of the ring I can see a "M" on one side and either an "E" or perhaps a "F" on the other side, but I can't tell what school the ring is even from and the only markings inside the band is the hallmark. No engravings of any kind.

Agreed RLOH. Highschool/college class rings are the ONE type of jewelry that can be easily traced to the owner, especially when a local school is involved. They hold memories and huge sentimental value. Reuniting a ring with it's owner is a good feeling, and is genuinely appreciated by the person who lost it. Anyone who knows of, or, has been directly involved in in such a return, knows exactly what I mean. It reflects well on our hobby also.

Get screwed over sometime returning one.
After it happened to me once and on two others all my efforts to contact the owners for weeks were ignored or rebuffed I realised that not all people are genuinely appreciative and I saw and experienced a different side of humanity...one that I am in no hurry to see or experience again.
That good feeling you might believe happens every time to return a lost item out of the blue to someone that didn't expect it, that doesn't happen in real life every time sorry to say.
No more for me, now I am a pirate...what I find I keep or do whatever else I want with it.
If I lose something I own that is precious then tough for me, if other people want to keep their stuff they should hold onto it better.
Usually I cash these rings in and buy something nice for my wife...a person I know for sure will be appreciative.
I sleep very good at night, also, selfish and greedy person that I am.

Everyone is different, some return these things all the time no matter if they have great experiences, bad experiences or both.
Some never even try...to each their own, it's all perfectly fine with me whatever others want to do.

I will continue to volunteer and look for lost items when asked by strangers or friends and not expect or will decline any reward if offered but if I find something in the wild just mark it mine

REVIER, I have returned 7 class rings and have never been SCREWED. I only suggest to try to get it to the owner and if they are DICKS play it by ear.

I was lucky then...my upbeat, exhilarating, and happy feelings all along the way were kinda dashed.
My luck is this was a not so smart, young, pretty backwards red neck from a real small town that thought really small, also.
Seemed not to have a clue about what I was doing for him, life in general or anything else.
My wife saw how excited I was to return it and how disappointed I became after it was done.
This was when gold was really high, the ring was huge at 18 grams and I could have gotten about $500 if I sent it in to ARA but never had that thought.
She told me his parents that for sure bought him the ring a few years before probably felt much more appreciation than he ever showed but I just never had a chance to talk to them.
I decided to think of it that way and forgot about it...or tried to.
A couple of others in the next two years never answered my calls, returned any calls, contacted me any way so I gave up on them...and all future returns.
Probably not the norm but what happened, happened.

You keep returning those rings which is a great thing...really it is, but me, I am not ever going to take the chance of being disillusioned and disappointed again.
I have no patience for dealing with the clueless fools out there anymore after an almost 30 year career in retail.
Most people are fantastically great but it is the real idiots, few that they may be, that you remember forever.
My track record is not great with these things so for me best to avoid the situation altogether.

I've had the same good experiences as RLOH. Returned over 10 class rings and most owners were ecstatic and extremely sentimental over the return. I enjoyed hearing their story behind the loss as they took the trip down memory lane. All good!

KUDOS to you and RLOH!! 17 returned rings between the two of you is pretty amazing! :beers:

The sheer number of returned rings written about in this, and other forums, and news media, by detectorist's is quite staggering.

Besides providing personal satisfaction to the detectorist, it reflects a VERY positive light on our hobby, and it's participants. These days our hobby seems to be targeted with only negative comments and actions towards us. The simple gesture of returning those personal items, can only help turn some of those negative opinions into positive ones! WELL DONE!

Now I'm not sure I ever want to find a ring. :D

Not all experiences returning rings are bad, probably most are going to be pretty good if that is what you want to do and the feeling you will get when someone looks at you and you know they really appreciate what you just did for them is hard to replicate any other way.
I do have great respect for those that do it, even more for people that continue to do it after bad experiences but all people are different and can handle good and bad experiences in different ways.
I read a post from a very talented water hunter once that had found dozens and dozens of these things and did the work to track down everyone he could and most were returned.
He loved the ones that sincerely thanked him which was the norm but he told if a few others that acted differently.
Once he contacted an owner in another state that sounded great and asked if he would ship him the ring in the mail or UPS or whatever.
Promised he would let him know when he got the ring and would reimburse him for shipping.
The hunter tracked the ring, the owner got it but he never made contact again.
Another time, and this one would have demoralized me, he used his own gas and drove to a more local owner that lost a ring.
He knocked on the door, the owner opened it, the hunter held up the ring in his open palm and said here is your ring and the guy never said a word, reached out and snatched it out of his hand and then slammed the door in his face.
He just shrugged and wrote it off and went on with his life and continued to return rings every time he found one but me, that would have destroyed me and my faith in human kind...I would have been affected badly.
My empathetic nature is great and makes me want to help all I come across anyway I can but when I see the illogical actions of the underside of the human race that can affect me very deeply.
That is why I believe everyone should do what they want regarding this stuff.
I never judge, much respect for those that do it but for those that don't want to I can see there might be many reasons why.
There is no law that says you must return anything and those that think there are...or want to judge others as any less moral then their pious selves because they don't are very misinformed.
As I keep saying to each their own...and I still sleep very well at night even though I am a pirate.

Hey REVIER is me. I just bought the DeTech 13" Ultimate DD. I'm going to use it for the first time tomorrow .

I saw that, don't be afraid to use the standard DD either and compare.
Scary deep, great response.
Hope the first target is not a class ring that you find, try to return and have a bad experience.
That would be a memory that would stick with you and kill your joy and color your first experiences with this fine rig.
Aim for pull tabs instead.
In a week or two start targeting class rings again.
