a diggin buddy of mine was driving through a public park we hunted till digging was banned recently today and this is what he saw,I didn't think anyone could be this ignorant...this had to be the work of kids or new detectorists that are probably fans of that awful Diggers show, there were not even that many pull tabs or targets on that hill!,they had to be even digging iron signals... beleve me I hunted that field 50 times for hours at a time sometimes with 4 or 5 other people with my e trac ctx and deus and it was tough to even pull a memorial there after we were done with it ,tomorow I'll be out fixing that hill even though I cannot dig there anymore ...the police were called and a report filed by my friend and it went over well with the officer with how my friend explained the difference between a ethical digger and the type that perpetrated the offense, please boycott these treasure shows on TVand the company's that sponsor them or provide equipment to the show and try to educate any new detctorists you see so this doesn't happen to you in your area...I'm outraged...Mole

That's a real pain in the grass... i hope they found some colone, roundness, treasure in the pock, buffs, and silv and other words they only say half of... somebody had to see something!! im not so sure it was fans of diggers as i see no evidence of exaggerated knee slides... i have a hard time believing that even stupid diggers would be that reckless. ... it really looks like someone ran out into that field and went into a 10 minute digging frenzy just to make it appear that it was the work of detectorists. ..the tell tail sign is that none of the plugs are broken apart..you mean to tell me that the target was conveniently located right at the bottom of each plug ? i dont think so! this is an obvious frame job !!! look at the spacing between holes...it just doesnt add up ...they are too evenly spaced apart... frame job i tells ya,frame job. probably done by the person whom passed the no digging rule just as a means of justifying their position and making them look like the hero.... frame job............

If that wasn't a frame job,the person that owns the detector should sell it,because they are to stupid to have one.-----what park???-----after1

Frame job for sure bootyhoundpa! Great call. That's exactly what that is right there. What a disgrace. Some people have too much time on their hands and are too stupid to be on this earth! I'm sure whoever did this, pulled it off at night I'm guessing.

The individual behind the digging ban may have been inundated with requests to drop the ban? Looks like they needed to reinforce why the ban was placed. Sure does smell fishy.

There is a dead fishy smell to these pictures. You are onto something bootyhoundpa. This looks like the work of a bunch of local kids on Halloween night. The plugs look dried out like they have been sitting open for a few days. They figured they would mess with those "old guys" who metal detect the field and cut open a bunch of plugs. In reality, I don't believe they even realized the magnitude of the mayhem they created. That is my educated guess. I feel for you Mole. I hope they apprehend those responsible. Truly I hope this is just a bunch of kids that pulled this horrible prank. If this indeed is the case, there would be a much better chance of working with town officials to get the ban overturned. However if this was an individual (s) with metal detectors, I could definitely see the town keeping a permanent ban on detecting. Keep us posted - Jim

In my humble opinion, like as stated already, this is not the work of a random metal detectorist/s. It has to be a deliberate attempt to prove some kind of a point. Surely someone had to be really p**ssed off even to the point of being angry at someone or some situation which has to be connected to detecting. I cannot see this as a prank by kid's because there was a lot of effort in digging those holes (unless someone paid them to do it)???? Kid's nowday's do pranks that don't take a lot of effort i.e. toilet papering and similar stuff. It's not something you could brag about to your friends because it was just a dumb thing to do.
If I lived in that area, I would look for a reason, do a little detective work and you'll possibly find out the why's and maybe the who's. Has there been any negative comments regarding this area of town in the local newspaper or online recently? Any disgruntled city/parks and rec; employee that has had a run-in with any detectorist/s. Any comments regarding metal detectorists or anyone that may have a gripe about the local detectorist clubs etc;.
You have to be very careful, especially in this day and age about pointing any fingers at anyone though and it may open a big can of worms and of course you could let it all go and not do the above suggestions.
I hope someone figures out who did this incredibly stupid act of vandalism and the ban get's lifted soon.

It looks like someone has an agenda to get everyone banned from metal detecting in your neck of the woods. I bet they saw an episode of the "Diggers" and thought "this is an easy way to get rich and famous".......WRONG......... and we all know who the sponsor of that horrible show is.

I would shoot the person or persons who did this. What a disgrace to detecting. Only reason it know it can't get banned here where I live is cause I know the mayor and thus nobody can do squat about detecting. The police around here even come say hi to you when your detecting. Only once did I have some moron make a fit about it k9 cop drove up and basically shut her down in 5 minutes. She got a warning not to do it again.

Really? Blame the Diggers show? That's like when parents tried to sue MTV over Beavis and Butt-Head because their kids were starting fires due to Beavis saying "fire, fire, fire" while burning something on television. The fact of the matter is that whomever did this horrendous act is ignorant and careless. A television show didn't cause that. Everybody wants to play the " blame game " these days. I hope that the morons who committed this act get caught then punished accordingly. Taking the Diggers show off of TV is not the answer. If that is the case then shut down youtube; heck just shut down the internet.

Well this is a shame. I don't think it's the diggers show but for sure they don't help in anyway to help new Detectorists out hunting. But then again they are a bunch of *&^%$#@. And the sponsors of the show will be &&^%$#@ them selfs in the long run. A few weeks I seen this young kid out at a school yard digging with a shovel. So I watched him from a distance . Well holes every where. I was &^%$#. It just happen I had a hand digger in my truck . ($50 hand digger) So I walked over to him and he had a BH Jr. digging everything. I say to him ,you really need to get rid of that shovel and be a little neater on digging your holes. He says , the shovel is all I have and my uncle does the same thing with his shovel. So grabbed my hand digger and showed him how to dig a target and make it the way you found it or even better. The kid (16) was like wow , you can't even see where you dug. I say keep it clean and you will be able to detect instead of the town ban detecting. I told him to go show every one how it's done. He says he will need to get a digger like mine when he gets his new Gerrett 250. I says , here , you can have this one but only if you take it home and show your uncle how to dig holes . And tell him he should of showed you the right way to dig a hole and cover it up like I showed you. Well the kid was so happy, left and told me I am going to my uncles now and show him. It just takes a little time showing these youngings a few thing. GS

I personally don't like the Diggers Show but watch it as entertainment from a humor standpoint.
This has absolutely nothing to do with that show. There is a much deeper purpose for vandalism
at this level against "one or all" metal detectorists. Look at who will benefit the most from this action.
Begin asking yourself questions such as: is there a metal detector business located in or very near
this town? Has there been a recent legal action brought against a detectorist who was in fact guilt of
destruction of public or private party due to his neglect to take care in leaving what he found as it was.
Also, was this the work of 1 person? I doubt it. Is there a war going on between 2 detectorist, one being
jealous of another for something that happened in the past such as a permission etc..? I don't know where
this happened but you can bet your butt that if it happened around here the guilty party or parties would be
caught. Somebody knows something and is willing to talk. You just have to ask the right questions in the right
place to find out.

My question is...how in Sam Hill did they dig that many holes without someone seeing them? Is it out of the way?

Never seen anything like that before....there's no way that has been done by someone metal detecting, there just would'nt be that many signals full stop.As other posters have said, this has been set up to make detectorists look bad.

i was out detecting 2 weeks ago and some moron with a ace 350 was using a full shovel in the park tearing up the grass, and lets just say i exploded on him for doing so and nobody ever saw him again. I know i probably should have helped him but sometimes i get a bit carried away and over do things. people shouldnt try to make detectorists look bad at all.

That is a nightmare

Tell me that picture is a Photoshop job? Please, tell me that it is?

The culprit needs to be tied up, and hung out beneath a bridge, as gator bait.
