This Goes With My Night Hunting Coil Post, The Last Item For Night Hunting

Scanman said:
Thanks Mark, this light is going to work out great!

It could be just the shadows, but it looks like you may have put the light on the bottom side of the shaft? if so did you come up with some advantage to that position?

I got ALL of mine mounted on top of the shaft and the light shines on the front of the coil and just enough to light up a little of the ground beyond the coil.

I've got 10 more of the lights ordered and I have enough clips for four more extra mounts.

I can't believe how quick you got that package being I used Regular snail mail LoL!

Mark

I did have the light mounted on the bottom of the shaft when I took the photo, but have since moved it to the front. I am surprised how bright this light is, can't wait for the snow to melt and be able to hunt. The light is a great fit and addition, that I am sure will prove very handy. Thanks again Mark.

I was night hunting once during heavy fog and while I was digging a target, next thing I know a pair of boots right next to me & I nearly let loose a payload in the shorts. It was security. Barely seen the boots standing a few feet next to me from the minimal light around the ball field. Then the deep burly voice asking what I was doing as he hit me in the face with his flashlight.
Another time, I was far enough from the truck that when I was leaving, half hour walk or so in the dark trying to find the truck in the dark woods.
Now I have an array of very nice flashlights I got from Battery Junction and I would carry 1 or 2 if in the dark again.

Like your flashlight mod.

Scanman, does that Cortes work as good as it looks? Fine looking faceplate, I must say.

Steve O, I got to use my Cortes for all of 10 min. as the first snow was coming down, that was months ago and it has not stopped snowing yet. lol

Scanman, I hear ya. We're running out of places to put the snow. The streets are a lot narrower now. I have to clear areas in the back yard so my pup can do his business. I look at it this way, the hours shoveling keeps me in shape, lol. Crap,... it just started snowing again.

I use one of those miner type headlamps. It allows for some other positives such as checking whats in my scoop and I can also scan the area around me easily to see if anyone is closeby. And plenty of illumination for seeing where your hunting.

I also use a LED headband light, but I don't keep it on in most places. I use it more for retrieving or digging a target. With the headband light on all the time with every movement of your head the light is allover the place, if there is houses around or in the distance its in the windows, if your next to a road then it get the attention of the people drive any cars in the area. The search light on the detector keeps the light on task while I still can move my head and look around without drawing as much attention.

if the headlamp is adjusted to just in front of you its not a problem going in anyones windows........the ones I use have a tilt function so you can place them at a bunch of different angles and also they have several light options so you just need to select the proper one for the task at hand. I just like how they illuminate what Im looking at. I keep one at work in my workcart also for working in low lit areas.
whatever works for you go with it.

Its not a debate,
I have several flashlight for different situations, not all of them are for each one. The detector headlight has some uses, but not all of them, but it does give another option for certain situations. My headband light is adjustable as well for different angles, but if your looking "All Around" the light follows all of the "All Around" motions and in some situations that can be somewhat of a problem.

So, I had no plans on that detector light being the ONLY light. The light is just another tool for detecting, it has its place and its purpose. Many think that after dark detecting is some insane idea to begin with, the light has its place, and so does after hours hunting, I've found my best finds after dark, and not hunting open public places.

Mark

sorry Mark I didn't mean it to be a debate. I was just pointing out another option. if the light on the shaft works for you then its right for you.

Night hunts I don't do alone. I almost always am using black widow headphones to block out the ocean noise so hearing someone close even in daytime is tough. To throw darkness into the equation, I like to see another light bobbing along close by:thumbup: I only night hunt sometimes to follow the tides.

Were good!
I see most of your night hunting is beach hunting, that is a different situation, not all of us has the option to wander alone a beach in the cool of the night. LoL I mean in over 30 years of detecting I've got to beach hunt no more than twice!

But, I'm along with you with the idea of a buddy to go along when night hunting. Also, when your not hunting a beach you can wear ear-buds or open ear headphones.

Not earlier post has a section that wasn't stated right!
