This Goes With My Night Hunting Coil Post, The Last Item For Night Hunting

Awhile back I put up a post about adding reflective tape to the tops of the coil so the coil can be seen better at night or very low light. Well along those same lines I wanted to add a detector headlight for hunting in more ruff turf.

Here are some of the coil pictures.

Here is the idea I used for the headlight.
I used a single low powered LED light, (Ebay $1.95 and free shipping) I got three of then and all of them seem to work very well.
It uses a single AA battery.

The clips I used I got from work, these would be pretty hard to come by, but something else could found that would work.

I just weighed this rig,
Total 2.5oz

Very clever and economical, good job Mark!

Just out of curiosity Mark, when hunting in the dark and using the light shining on your coil, doesn't it give you a kind of night

Well, in most cases I don't think I would need the one on the detector seeing how the coils have reflective tape one them. What my plan was, was to just use a head band headlamp (LED) and run it on the single red LED, it lights up the reflective tape on the coil very well and you can see good enough to move the coil around, IF your on good terrain, then to dig I just switch the headband light over to the bright LED's and all is well.

The Detector headlight would come in, in maybe worse terrain, but the light I used for this is a very low powered 1 watt single LED so its a nice soft light. But, to dig I would still have my headband light.

I also bought a small handheld SUPER BRIGHT LED flashlight for self defense, in the dark in will induce temporary blindness, then I have time to slap them in the side of the head with my digger

Here is the whole headlight rig.

Plus, most of my other coils are black, that one in the pictures on my 1270 is White.

Well, here is the operators view with only the light and in the DARK!
Its really nice, I'm very impressed with the outcome. The light is mounted on the shaft just below the control housing. All, my detectors is going in for a headlight implant surgery.

BE SAFE OUT THERE HUNTING AT NIGHT ! DON"T FOR GET THE FIRE POWER WITH LIGHTING ALSO!!!

Well, awhile back I ordered 5 more of those little flashlights, they came in today, that gives me enough for all my detectors.
This idea seems to be working out very well, I need one more set of clips to get the light on the last detector I have.

I am just wondering why a person would want to hunt at night. I sure wouldn't want to do that around here. It seems like a good way to get mugged or worse.

Well, they are places that its probably not wise to hunt after dark, but then there are pleases where a couple of buddies could do it safe.

Why hunt at night?
In Hot summer weather EMI is way less just because you lose the effects of solar energy, (the detector just works better)
Way less cell phone use,
Its way cooler.

All of the BEST finds I ever found were at night! (all but one)

Another thing is that calling it night hunting could also be a just a couple of hours before daylight, or just a a couple of hours after the sun goes down, (before sunup is the better of the two)

Wow night hunting, that brings back some good memories. ( a Franklin still haunts me )

LoL!
Here is the story to go with that (as best as I can remember it)
One night back around the mid 80's "wvrick" and I were going to go night hunting in town, we would be hunting those sidewalk strips (we call it curbing).
So after working we met downtown, this would have been around 1:00am.
I get my stuff out of the car and Rick's getting his stuff out of his car,, when he discovers he didn't have either his headphones or something he needed to hook them up with???? anyway you couldn't hunt at night out in front of the house fronts with no headphones! So, Rick comes over to follow and help me hunt LoL! As I remember it, it wasn't to many targets and I was working on one that was right up against the edge of the concrete sidewalk, it wasn't to deep, but straight up on edge, so I was going after it with my probe in one hand and the index finger of the other (Chop-Stix Style) when out comes a really nice shiny Ben Franklin half dollar. Now I was fine :smoke: and a little :jump:

But, Rick was well, kind-a  and maybe  (my helper left early that night.)

But, now its just a good story for both of us to reflect back on

That sure was the way it went, my X wife had swiped my headphone adapter.

Ok now I understand. I never thought about the heat because it don't get that hot here very often. I am still learning and have all I can do to detect in the light.

Well, my work place last week notified all the employees that the company is going to close the warehouse! This past January 9th I completed 35 years of service, yea! unemployed for the first time sense I was sixteen. They have to mail us a 60 day notice and that's not happened yet. But, in the wake of this seeing how I'm the only one that works in the mechanic shop I decided to start vacating stuff and cleaning it out!.
In doing that I found some more clips for the flashlight mounts, two for my last detector and I got four extras figuring "wvrick" could put them to good use. We worked together in the shop, but he flew the coup back in Jan 2 2013 and left me to the hounds LoL.

Anyway, I've now got the driving lights on all my detectors.

I knew I should have taken all those clips with me. :poke:
Yes it sucks closing, 34yrs almost killed me.. well maybe not but it never did me much good.
