Thinking on moving to a Vaquero, Question about it

I wonder how many charts are out there with different numbers? We all think of gold as a low conductor but actually it seems its what its alloyed with that draws it down into the range"we must dig" if we are to find it.
Also size matters or mass or whatever its called. Ive got a few 18K rings that read high pulltab range yet some small 18k earrings I found are down well below a nickel.

It does seem that we are dealing with generalities at best, doesn't it?

If table is accurate, I don't know how I ever find lead, but I do, with iron discriminated out.
I believe, again, that there is the alloy element to factor in. Raw lead, as extracted from its parent ore, galena, is utterly unusable. So it, too, is alloyed.
I find it around the nickle-tab range.

.. on the subject of small link chains, laying on top of the ground ... some of the finer linked chains my wife has I can not see at all with my CZ6a or CZ20 in autotune (allmetal) but can see them with the Compadre, Cibola and Tejon detectors I have, set with small iron nails discriminated out.
Can't see them very deep, inch or two at best but the Tesoros see them.
Yeah thats right. This is what I meant when I said you might detect them with the Vaquero... which is better than not with other detectors.

The CZ's are very good detectors, just don't seem to have the sensitivity to very small pieces of metal that the Tesoro VLF detectors have. Also means chasing all the tiny bits of aluminum too. That's the tradeoff. I don't ever dig aluminum slivers the size of pencil points with the CZs, I do with the Tesoros.

I think this is on purpose. The designers probably reckon there is more energy expended than profit gained in chasing itsy bitsies like fine chains and earring findings. And on some level, they'd be right. So they dont build in that sort of sensitivity.

tvr thats a good point about the lead. We have no idea about the size of the sample of each piece of metal and I would think that has something to do with it, at least from our detectors standpoint. case in point.......how about a small silver .925 charm versus a mans .925 band, they sure hit way different on our meters but are the same material.

Dave I think you think like that based on how you answered Topos post but I doubt thats the reason engineers dont build in that sensitivity. Probably something as simple as they cant for certain detector. A little off topic but it relates: did you ever wonder why fisher never made a widescan for the CZ, after all those years in production and I think the 3D is still being made? I read on a tech forum the engineers at fisher say it cant be done on the CZ platform. Even Sunray, who made a few CZ aftermarket things like the pinpointer and I believe a coil?......didnt make one. I think its more that reason.

myself I like the ability of finding them and wish all my detectors found them but alas this is not so. they are surely easy enough to ignore if you dont wanna dig em.

one detector that fooled me is the F75, I thought it would equal or better my Tejon on small gold but it doesnt, its not as good.

The Vaq is a great machine. Run your GB a little cooler and small iron will give you little to no trouble, big iron messes up just about any machine, but you can work around it. As for aluminum it does sound a wee bit different, headphones will help. It has a bit of a sharper snap at the beginning and end of the sound, also the signal will stay strong longer as you raise your coil, than gold will.

Here is something that the VAq or Cibola will do: take a silver dime and cover it with a bunch of nails. See how many nails it takes to mask out the coin. Once you have a signal that you would dig, try your other machines.... :)

Get the 5" coil and you will be way ahead of the game.

I've been searching about tesoro detectors on the web and once more the reviews have been outstanding

Im saving now to swing that tesoro Vaquero :super:
