Thinking of going back to the AT platform

@calabash digger @jim tn
Before this gets out of hand and tempers flare, I would ask you two to take this to a private conversation. Thank you

I have a Garrett AT pro, went to the AT Max, I went back to the Pro. I have several other detectors on the wall, when it is time to go out the door I always go for the AT Pro. Simple to operate and I know what it is telling me..most the time:)
I’ve been swinging the AT Gold and the ATX and I decided to add an AT Max to my collection. I used the Max everyday for 2 weeks before I sent it back to Garrett for glitches with the mode button, the wireless and chatter issues. They’re supposedly sending me a new one. I plan on unloading it as soon as it gets here. If there’s a depth advantage with the Max over the Gold you’d need a feeler gauge to measure it. I’ll take my AT Gold over the Max any day.

Trading a almost new Equinox 800 for a AT PRO....WOW! I am an advanced user with the AT PRO, EQUINOX, and Deus … I only swing the Equinox and Deus now.....Take time to learn the Equinox and you will see what all the fuss is about.

IF a person is only chasing clad in a park 3 inches deep they will never understand what the fuss is all about. You could do that with plenty of detectors and have great success.

For us who are into a more demanding or advanced part of the hobby such as relics or DEEP silver KNOW what the fuss is all about ...….few of my coins from the last 4 hunts...

Since you posted this on a forum I feel inclined to respond. First of all Calabash - I have an ACE 250 and an Equinox. I have found more and more valuable finds with my ACE 250 than anything I've seen you post. Claiming you are into a more demanding or advanced part of the hobby is laughable. While there are many different paths to choose in this hobby don't be fooled into thinking you have a superior plan or method in regards to treasure hunting.

I have an AT Max, have been a Garrett man for 40 yrs. Really love the Max. But I had a chance to pick up a used Etrac recently. But whichever detector you pick, you need to use it weekly for 6 mo to a year to become competent with it. I ran into a guy using an Equinox last week, asked him how long he had it. His response was " long enough to finally learn how to use it, about a year". I am struggling with the decision to concentrate on just one detector and sell the other, tough decision.

ricka, as you know doubt know, no one detector does it all. I have three other detectors besides my A T Pro....and have tried numerous others over just the last decade. If you can handle the weight of the Etrac, they have a banner reputation for finding deep silver. On the other hand, the Max probably has a much faster target response and ultimately could out perform the Etrac in heavy trash.....using these as a couple of examples for having both detectors. And yes, getting the max out of a detector takes time. HH jim tn

Most of all my finds could have been found with most top machines and almost all I see found in videos, also would be found with many machines. The best machine is the one you learn the best. My wife uses an AT Max and I have had her check many deep targets hit with my F75 and Multi Kruzer and she hears the targets. Depth isn't a problem with it at all.

Kemper if this is not a more demanding or advanced way to find relics in this hobby I dont know what is and in some circles it might even be called a superior plan. Anybody can say anything on a forum about a metal detector. I have a question for all you guys who are knocking what I said which was just my opinion based on testing and using the detectors mentioned. HOW MANY OF YOU HAVE DONE HEAD TO HEAD TESTING WITH THE DETECTORS I MENTIONED IN MY ORIGINAL POST? Honest answer please>>> I have used and tested all 3 extensively...

DIG A HOLIC this is your quote (

Meanwhile today on Youtube, Relic Hunting Florida finds a Flying Eagle with his At Pro in the same type coastal soil. Oh yeah I included a pic of my flying eagle.....

Question whats does that prove? I found my first Spanish Reale with my AT PRO...….

As for kevins thoughts on the best detector being the one you learn the best I have heard all that nonsense before.

If your detector is a turd and you learn it well it is still a turd and your gonna be limited to what the turd can do whether you been hunting a year or 40 years..... That's probably not politically correct but its the TRUTH.

I should not have even posted again over here but these pop shots being fired at my detecting methods and finds needed to addressed...…
Moderator I am not gonna post anymore on this topic because I can see I offended a few and it is gonna get out hand . I will just leave you with a few of my finds to look at ... ...

Hey! Look at me, look at me! I’m the best ever! Look at all this stuff! Are you still looking at me?
We should have a separate forum for Clowns and Bullies.

Not Equinox finds. Turd finds I guess. Many/many more..... That V button is pretty rare turd find.

I think you are the one taking pop shots at people's detecting methods. Read your posts. A more advanced and demanding way to to find relics in this hobby ( treasure hunting ) would be to dig the dirt and use a screening method. I just use that example in answer to your statement that you don't know " what is " You are constantly cutting down other people's methods /machines while promoting your methods and choice of machines.

A " superior plan " as you put it, may very well be using an ACE 250 searching lots in locations that have not been searched , instead of using your time making videos. I'm not suggesting you do that, but in actuality, it may be a superior plan.

Easy boys !.....there is more than one way to skin a catfish, and certain detectors work better in certain areas. there is an old saying, beware of the man with just one gun because he surely knows how to use it. Calabash, I've seen your videos on testing different detectors in your test plot, very interesting! But I havent found a coin or heard of a coin being found at 14" here in my midwest area, so my Max isnt smelling so bad after all. You obviously get out detecting a bunch and can operate a detector very skillfully, and have some really good sites to hunt. I hate to see this sport/hobby get like drag racing and shooting, where the cost to be competitive goes up every day, and if you dont drop the big bucks, you are left behind.

detectors are just detectors...all will work....LOCATION is the key...If there isn't a coin there...a 5000 dollar detector would be no better than a 2 dollar garage sell detector....
Stop the fuss, research, be more successful with whatever brand you choose.

I have to say, I'm with you. I just bought an equinox 600 with both the 11" coil and the 6" coil. I am trying to learn it, but it is really difficult not to just put it down and pick up the old reliable AT Pro. I am considering trading this setup for a max too. It's a shame. I had really high hopes for finding deeper silver that the pro missed.

For coin hunting the at pro walks all over the deus, that’s definitely my opinion of using both..Deus is a damn fine dig it all relic machine, but then again so are Tesoro’s ...Equinox is ok if you like digging all coin signals, and it will find coins well.. In my opinion it doesn’t ID very well, and I’m not a fan of the compressed ID scale.
You cannot go wrong with a At pro in anyway shape or form..I live in western Pennsylvania and I’m assuming since it’s coal country my soil is pretty mineralized..I have no problems getting 7 to 8 inches and finding silver coins with the at pro..Who wants to dig 12 inch coins?..I’d say almost every live dig video I watch on YouTube regardless of the machine used ,they’re digging 3 to 7 inch coins..

Kurt of the Hoover Boys said last nite on Gone Diggin that he hunts beside the Equinox's all the time and finds just as much as they do.
