thinking of getting the 10X12 SEF coil

well now I have the pro coil and the 12" X10" orrrrrrrr10"X12" but now I just need a small one for trashy sites.
I will stick with my propointer for now and not get the X1 probe and just get a small coil- one that will act like a laser through the trash.

I recommend the X-5 or the 6" Excellerator, I have owned both and I think either one is a killer coil. You will be spoiled by the difference in weight when you have a small coil on. It feels as if you have nothing there. The other VERY BIG thing I like is you don't catch the stubble grass, that alone is important to me when swinging a coil. Its the one thing I likee about my stock 10 1/2" that is on my XS, that coil slides across the grass like a coil should.

 Bryce, truth be known early on I used to call them 10x12 and 12x15 coils myself too. Then I started noticing that many more people seemed to be calling them the reverse of that. More so than the other way, which also seemed odd to me. Then I came upon some obscure blurb somewhere where somebody said that in terms of engineering dimensions the length is always listed before the width. I don't know if that was true or not (never looked it up), but it seemed good enough reason to me to just go along with the flow and start calling them what everybody else (or what seemed more people than not anyway) was calling them...IE: 12x10.

It didn't feel "right" to me either, and I'm not one to "just go along with the flow of things" myself most of the time (hate following trends), but in this instance I just figured that little blurb I read must be right and I too would start calling them 12x10s to be "technically" correct. Now watch somebody will dig up the fact that that is not proper criteria in engineering circles. Then I'm REALLY going to be ticked that I went along with the trend on that one.

Be that as it may, I'm WAY off topic now...And the whole point was he was wondering if there were "other" 12x10s (or should I say 10x12s) being made by other companies sold for the FBS machines, or at least I *think* that was the original question? So long story longer...Yes...Regardless of what people call them, everybody is talking about the same coils, and there ain't no impostors out there lurking about with clever little similar name variations. All the same coils by the same company.

That's a knot I don't wish to have to untie again. :stars: Too late in the evening, not enough coffee in the house, and I don't have any cold ones handy to lubricate the old brain box...:drinking:

EDIT: You've GOT to be kidding me?! I just goggled it and it appears there is no such rule in engineering...

Question- "What is the sequence of width length and height when measuring dimensions?"

Answer- "There is no convention in general. it depends on what is measured and how. a fish tank maybe quoted different to a milling machine, to a swimming pool."

OK, that tears it, I'm off to buy a 6 pack, and then I think I'll think up my own name for them to use for now on so I ain't following no trends no more. :buds: Follow the herd just once and look where it gets ya...:rage: Once I get to say about beer five I think I'll see if I can track down the guy who started that whole urban myth about listing the length first and give him a piece of my mind. He's probably kicking back having a good laugh about it right now.

Next joke- Listing coil sizes like they measure TVs...From one corner diagonally to the other. Or even more twisted, from the shaft out...:look:

As much as Bryce finds with that baby, he gits to calls it whatever he wants to!!------Ah knows one thing----I loves mah 10X12!!!-------Critterhunter, did you know that coil could even be called a 11"??-------That oughta get somethin goin! ;)-------------Del

 Here's one for ya....I measured the "13" inch Ultimate and in reality it is 13" width wise but only 12 & 1/2" from tip to tail at it's longest point in that axis, so I think I'm going to call it a 12 & 1/2 X13 or a 13X12 & 1/2.

I can see Bryce's point...Why would they list their other coils with the width first and then switch it around on the SEFs? Maybe it was to make it more distinct and not to be confused with the 10x14 coils, which are entirely different?

Most measuring I have noticed has gone with XYZ. X being left right, Y front to back, and Z being up and down. This would make Bryce right.

I picked up a used 5" exellerater for $45 and it does good too. It's smooth with no openings and doesn't get caught in anything. It so tiny though!
