thinking of getting the 10X12 SEF coil

I just bought this SE Pro but might as well get the better coil I presume but should I sell the pro coil that came with it or keep it.
what do most of you guys do or should I trade it in to a forum dealer.

If you can afford to keep it I would go that route ... They are different coils and it is nice to have options.

OK will do
Something tells me this machine and me will get along fine.
I have an eerie feeling about this machine. I sold my other detectors so I am forced to use this one all the time from now on.

I sold my pro coil on ebay for $75.00 and got the sef. Great upgrade! More depth and more accurate pinpointing. Look for an x1 probe for your next upgrade too.

is the detech the only one to get-I had a response from a seller. but he does not know the name-I think he bought it from kellyco
here is the pic.

ok thanks-I will buy it.

Wait a minute-is the excellerator just as good?
I read somewhere the kellyco just sells the excelerator

Detech produces the SEF coils...the Ultimate 13" coil...and the Excelerator coils... and Kellyco sells all 3 as far as I know.

The 10 x 12 is indeed the SEF coil...which is what you have pictured in your post.

ok thanks bryce-i'll get it

Hey I am ready to upgrade right now but I have the garrett propointer-whats the big difference.

forget it- looked into it.
extra added weight-etc etc.
I will stick with the propointer

I used the pro coil up until about a month ago, i decided since most of my ground seems pretty mineralized and i had heard that the sef 10x12 was a bit stabler, and better at trash seperation that i would look into the sef. Well i didnt have much money at the time to be spendin on coils (atleast not if the wife found out) so i found a guy on treasurnet with an ad wanting to trade his sef for a pro coil. I hesitated at first wondering why he wanted to go back to the pro coil but after talking with him he assured me the sef was better for my kind of hunting, he was wanting the little bit less wieght that the pro coil has and the fact that he was mostly beach hunting made the pro coil his choice, So i traded him, straight across. It was the best trade i have ever made in my life, i can run my sesitivity about 5 settings higher then before, it seperates nicely in trashy areas and the pinpointing is much better, i dont really notice the extra weight, its heavy to begin with especially since i have a sunray probe. I just switch arms every so often and that works, i have never used a handheld pinpointer, i can see some advantages such as weight but theres too many positives for me to consider ever using a handheld instead, batteries alone is a big one, also the fact that i can hear the tone right thru my headphones to make sure im pinpointing the correct target. Not having to worry about forgetting it or buying new batteries. You have to weigh your options and see which would work best for yourself

Greater depth, and it gives audio directly through your detector, so you know before hand if your digging a deep nail. Because of tone id.

OK I just bought the coil pictured above.
thanks for all the help

Here, this should lay it all out there for you on just what coils Detech makes and which are what. I posted this in the Coil sticky in the Sovereign forum. Scroll down this thread until you see near the bottom a message called something like "A Complete List Of Coils Made By Detech".

http://www.findmall.com/read.php?21,1727373,1773986,quote=1#REPLY

That message has information on all their coils along with pictures of all of them, with the exception of the 5 and 6" solid Excelerators I forgot to stick in there, but does have a picture of the 12.5" to 18" open frame Excelerators along with the rest of there coils they make including the SEFs and Ultimate. While that post is meant for the BBS Minelabs, they make all the same coils for the FBS units and vise versa. Only exceptions being the 8x6 SEF or 6" solid Excelerator are not made for the BBS units, but they do make the 5" solid Excelerator for it too.

You'll see pictures of the 12.5" to 18" open framed round "Excelerator" coils, but those are not the SEFs. The SEFs are also pictured in that thread with their other coils they make. I noticed Kellyco calls them "Excerelator" SEF coils, but I think that's just because they used the same page header where they used to list the round true Excelerator coils. I just searched the web and nobody else is calling the SEFs "Excelerators", so I doubt Detech ever did do that.

Why attach a name of coils that never seemed too hot of sellers to a new coil design that has taken the world by storm? If Detech did do that it would be one very bad marketing move IMO. The 5 and 6" solid Excelerator trash coils are very popular, but the 12.5" to 18" open framed ones you never seem to hear much about despite them being on the market for years. Contrast that with the SEFs only arriving a few short years ago and how they are a very popular among the FBS/BBS crowd.

So if you see any coils being called anything other than SEF that are for the FBS/BBS units as well as other machines in the 12x10 size for example, what you are seeing is just mis-worded descriptions by people. Some call them 10x12's, some see Kellyco's site listing them as "Excelerators" and think that might be a different coil, etc. Nope. All the same coil made for various detector platforms, and the proper name is Detech SEF 12x10, 15x12, 8x6, and some larger sizes.

Seems some people "officially" call then 10 x 12 while some state them as 12 x 10.

I refuse to call them 12 x 10 or 18 x 15 when they (kellyco and detech) state the other coils as 4.5 x 7...10 x 14...etc.:bouncy:...as they should.

In fact it irritates the snot out of me:clapping:...so I call it the 10 x 12 as I feel that's what it should be according to how they list their other coils as smaller number x bigger number. They don't state the other coils as 7 x 4.5 or 14 x 10...etc...so not sure why they differ on some the way they do.

To ME it will always be the 10 x 12:clapping::beers:...but hey...it's all good my friend.

Here's a link to a few other who state it as the 10 x 12 too......

I may have missed this question here but is the 10 x 12 a 10" coil or a 12" coil? does it cover 10" of ground or 12" of ground?

Thanks,

Thanks,

10" wide by 12" long, so you would be covering 12" of ground per sweep.
