Thinking about a V3 could use some opinions

Hello All,

I have been detecting for several years and have always used a Tesoro. I am thinking about trading it in for a V3, but some of the negative postings have me sitting on the fence. I would like your opinion of the V3 machine and about what I may expect switching from a Tesoro Cortes to the V3.

Thanks,
Joe

There is no comparison between any Tesoro and a V3. You have so much more info at your fingertips with the V3. Your Tesoro experience will certainly give you an advantage over people coming over from other brands. You won't have to "unlearn". As a Tesoro user, you are used to listening and interpreting signals, and this is a plus.

Most of the negative feedback comes from lack of experience with the V3. Any issues that occurred early on have been resolved. I am fairly new to the V3, and at first I found it a bit overwhelming. What I realized is that the preset controls are very aggressive, and most need to be lowered at first. This includes all sensitivity controls and filters. The D2 needs to be swung at a very fast speed at the factory settings. From what i am learning (being a newbie to Tesoro; I just got mine last week), it also requires a fast sweep speed, so you should be ok with that.

Keep in mind that the Tesoro and the V3 are at opposite ends of the spectrum. Tesoro is big on performance, but keeps controls and information at a minimum. The v3 has more controls and information than any other metal detector on the market.

If you decide to go with a V3, give it a try in a test garden, or at a site that you are already familiar with. Keep the controls conservative for a while, and then gradually raise them to your liking.

I think you will be very happy if you go with it.

Hi:

Even though my partner and I have had every single thing go wrong with our machines (pod explosion, bad coil, mis-tuned from the factory for depth and a pinpoint depth problem) all have been fixed professionally and quickly(we both got brand new V3s overnighted, wow) from the factory. Also, most if not all of these problems have either probably or definitely been fixed in the new versions.

The point is, that despite these problems which can almost be expected with such a leap in technology, we love our V3s. The data that you get is just awesome, even if you don't need to use it for every target you dig. It is such a fun machine to learn and while I am happy that I feel like I am getting great hunting out of it now, I am even happier that I know I can still grow with the machine for years to come.

Combine that with the fact that you can call whites or come to this forum anytime day or night to learn more and the experience has been very positive.

I think that if I can feel this way, despite all that went wrong at first, it must have been even better for people without the problems. And you can rest assured that in the off chance that you get a problem machine (unlikely with later production) whites will handle it like no other company. I got a brand new V3 from them and so did my partner.

If the only reason you are considering NOT buying is the technical/production glitches, you can put that out of your mind because you will NEVER be stuck with a problem machine. Whites will take care of you. Its worth the very minor risk. Even if you buy a used one, the 2 year warranty has you covered.

Just need to chime in here. I've been running an "early" Vision 1.0. Absolutely no problems (except that it does have the high volume...guess I'm just used to it now.) This new box runs smooth. The issues I've seen have always been due to high factory sensitivities not being backed off on, headphones not being adjusted to tune out EMI, and just basic getting into programs, making a mess and not learning how to do a clean up

Like anything new, you have to learn some of the basics and its a smooth transition. If you've been running good equipment and have an "enjoy the learning" thing going on, this machine is a dream to use. (Learning stuff in "chunks" and not sweating what you haven't learned is key.) Also... this machine weaves through an iron mess and loves jewelry like no other. The problem machine thing is not the true reality. Plus...Whites is as solid as it gets.

"The problem machine thing is not the true reality"

Unless, of course, you got one of them, as confirmed by the factory.
