They say curiosity killed the cat. So lets get a little daring.

Yeah they do! Nice group shot Randy.

Just one thing missing from that pic...

:fisher:

:poke:

Tom, do you know of something that might give me the "EDGE".

:minelab:

Well there is one "Advantage" I could name. ;)

the gray rod was greenish, and the red was Cindy Crawford pucker up ready red. Honest, and I'm not wearing rose colored glasses, they're at the optometrist being fitted for bi-focals.

Do you think Cindy Crawford is of Dutch descent?:poke:

And I'm going to stop responding to anything but good post from this point on. This crap has got to stop.
For anyone who cares. I will post my finds and give the desired info for each one.

I would be more than willing to let her do a swimsuit layout in my buggy!

Gotta check out the party bar to see if the sand shifted any over the winter.

And there is a reason Bob why there are some very experienced people here. And you can look at it as a glass half empty, or a glass half full situation.

Since I don't think you were here from the start of the forum, I will try to lay out why the particular mix of users are here.

Minelab never really had a lower or middle priced VDI/TID machine to compete with in the market. That segment was dominated by other players and Minelab wanted a piece of that market segment. This is no different of an action than any other company might take.

I don't know how long the development time was from inception to release, but I imagine 2 to 3 years. There were probably posters here who had prototypes of the machines for testing before release, so they have a lot of experience from that time forward. We will probably not know exactly who because they had to sign Non-Disclosure Agreements.

Just before release of the X30 & X50's Dick S at Minelab Vegas got the idea to send machines to a veritable who's who of detectordum. This was a very risky but brilliant marketing move which showed they had a lot of confidence in what they had produced. I by the way am NOT one of the who's who. I was contacted by Dick S specifically because I had never used any Minelab product, and he was looking for an outside view from someone who has never used a Minelab. To this day I own no other Minelab product.

My bottom line when contacted was that I was going to give my opinion with no strings attached, which I did, and you can go back and see that I gave pros & cons for the machines I tried. I gave very detailed accounts of how the machines stacked up against some middle of the line Fishers. I received hate mail for pointing out the cons, and hate mail for pointing out the pros.

The who's who that tried the X-Terras and liked them, have continued to frequent the forum. They are NOT average detectorists, most probably have 25+ years experience and have used just about every machine made. I look at these people as resources to make me a better detectorist, glass half full. Do I agree with everything they say, no far from it.

Let's take Cannonball for instance, I disagree with many things he says, but here's a guy that built a detector from scratch in the early 70's, and has nugget hunted at Ganes Creek. I don't think saying things like, "Some of it I'm sure is book talk." is going to set well with people who were building detectors 30+ years ago.

This forum probably has some of the highest poster horsepower for experience & electronics knowledge on the net. You seem to have a bad habit of making backhanded comments which are perceived by many as highly dis-respectful.

If you do pose a question don't be surprised to get the chapter of a book as a response, because that is how much knowledge many of these people have, and are willing to GIVE their time to help others be better not only X-Terra users, but other brands also. Recently I have been very excited to see the posts from BT, because he is providing another view of how the X70 can be pushed to limits that most of us never thought possible. And BT is a very recent poster here, yet it is obvious he has a great deal to contribute. Therefore BT is not any member of a clique nor is Bavaria Mike, JackPine, TinFoil(scoundrel)or many other posters.

Maybe to look at it another way, if a detector Olympics were set up, I would not want to run and gun against most of these guys, because they could clean my clock with a $75 Bounty Hunter.

And that being said, maybe all concerned can get on with the things that are productive and friendly. I enjoy the posts on this forum of most everyone, but the bickering needs to stop. I have only had my XT-70 for about a year and I am still learning to use it. I welcome all the posts from everyone who go to the effort to provide me with more information on its operation therefore making me a better operator and making my hunting adventures fun for me and my family. When we had our first misunderstanding it would have ended then. I felt as though I were being chastised for speaking out of place. Like a pecking order or to that effect.
I am a person that likes to share knowledge about the hobby, enjoy seeing others finds no matter how trivial they may be (like my post tonight) and show my finds no matter how trivial THEY may seem.
When I came here from the Explorer forum I expected the same kind of comradory as we had there. When I came here I felt as though no one dared say anything that didn't coincide with the powers to be.
I'm sorry I missed something but If I did then others that come here are either greatly puzzled or they just slide into the pecking order.
I know before I post what I am typing right now that it will be misread or misunderstood. That I'm used to by now. The thing is this got way out of hand and if you and I can make amends, maybe everyone else will let it settle.
Bob

G'day Bob.
There is no pecking order here. From where you are standing, you made quite a reasonable comment. I would have thought the same as you, if I was standing in your shoes, then I would be thinking the same thing. So to clear things up, I'll explain my comment. By the way; this is the first time that I've ever made such a direct comment like that to any one on the forum.
Cannonball made his first appearance on this forum before Christmas last year. In that time, virtually all of his posts have be stirring up trouble. This one is quite typical of his posts. He seems to have it in for Digger and seems to delight in getting him ryled up. If you want to confirm what I am saying, then type his user name into the the search bar above and draw your own conclusions.
As far as user names go,they reveal something about us. Digger. What does that name mean to you. My name tells you where I am from. Cannonball. What sort of images does that bring to mind for you. Unfortunately, from time to time, we are going to get people that will come onto the forum that have no other real agenda, other than to stir trouble up.
I sorry if I gave you the impression that it's not OK to say something negative or to disagree about things. You'll find plenty of that here, and without it, it wouldn't be a very healthy forum.
Mick Evans.
