And there is a reason Bob why there are some very experienced people here. And you can look at it as a glass half empty, or a glass half full situation.
Since I don't think you were here from the start of the forum, I will try to lay out why the particular mix of users are here.
Minelab never really had a lower or middle priced VDI/TID machine to compete with in the market. That segment was dominated by other players and Minelab wanted a piece of that market segment. This is no different of an action than any other company might take.
I don't know how long the development time was from inception to release, but I imagine 2 to 3 years. There were probably posters here who had prototypes of the machines for testing before release, so they have a lot of experience from that time forward. We will probably not know exactly who because they had to sign Non-Disclosure Agreements.
Just before release of the X30 & X50's Dick S at Minelab Vegas got the idea to send machines to a veritable who's who of detectordum. This was a very risky but brilliant marketing move which showed they had a lot of confidence in what they had produced. I by the way am NOT one of the who's who. I was contacted by Dick S specifically because I had never used any Minelab product, and he was looking for an outside view from someone who has never used a Minelab. To this day I own no other Minelab product.
My bottom line when contacted was that I was going to give my opinion with no strings attached, which I did, and you can go back and see that I gave pros & cons for the machines I tried. I gave very detailed accounts of how the machines stacked up against some middle of the line Fishers. I received hate mail for pointing out the cons, and hate mail for pointing out the pros.
The who's who that tried the X-Terras and liked them, have continued to frequent the forum. They are NOT average detectorists, most probably have 25+ years experience and have used just about every machine made. I look at these people as resources to make me a better detectorist, glass half full. Do I agree with everything they say, no far from it.
Let's take Cannonball for instance, I disagree with many things he says, but here's a guy that built a detector from scratch in the early 70's, and has nugget hunted at Ganes Creek. I don't think saying things like, "Some of it I'm sure is book talk." is going to set well with people who were building detectors 30+ years ago.
This forum probably has some of the highest poster horsepower for experience & electronics knowledge on the net. You seem to have a bad habit of making backhanded comments which are perceived by many as highly dis-respectful.
If you do pose a question don't be surprised to get the chapter of a book as a response, because that is how much knowledge many of these people have, and are willing to GIVE their time to help others be better not only X-Terra users, but other brands also. Recently I have been very excited to see the posts from BT, because he is providing another view of how the X70 can be pushed to limits that most of us never thought possible. And BT is a very recent poster here, yet it is obvious he has a great deal to contribute. Therefore BT is not any member of a clique nor is Bavaria Mike, JackPine, TinFoil(scoundrel)or many other posters.
Maybe to look at it another way, if a detector Olympics were set up, I would not want to run and gun against most of these guys, because they could clean my clock with a $75 Bounty Hunter.
