The two best coinshooting machines?

Active member
I have a T2, a SovereignGT, and a Tejon. I ordered an F75 today.

Mostly i relic hunt but I do love to hunt old coins at old homesites, 19th century fairgrounds, and old parks. I find that the GT does very well on coins in a cleaner environment, (not too many nails). The Tejon, with the 5.5" coil work's very well around the nails, it will pull buttons out of the nails. The T2 unmask's targets in the nails too but cause's sensory overload if there is too much trash.

The GT is a bit heavy for extended use, at least for me.

What are your choices for the two best all around coinshooting detectors in the kind of sites I mentioned. First, the best one and second the best one considering weight and ease of use.

I hunt NW GA mostly, red clay, high mineral, iron ore in the ground.

I have been thinking of these:
Explorer SE
CZ3D
Whites Blue and Grey
MXT
5900
or the M6

Also I have been thinking about maybe a DeLeon or a Cortes but I don'y know anything about the Cortes, I don't know anyone who uses one but if it is as stable as the Tejon with a TID, it might be the ticket.

So, tell me your picks.

xl-pro with the 6" "bullseye,or 6" "blackmax" coil!

if you need another one!..the cz-70 from fisher.also is a "nasty" coin sniper too!..not balanced well though, and really requires to be hip-mounted,or chest mounted using fisher's factory harness!..xl-pro
is better choice because it is balanced better especially with the small coil on board!..BEST coin sniper i have ever used!

There are a lot of good metal detectors on the market. The user and metal detector has to matched up and from one hunter to another this will vary.Right now I use a XS Sovereign and 1236x and I'm very pleased with the performance of these metal detectors for coinshooting.I don't see any advantages going to another newer more expensive model.I've had as many as six units at one time, and have bought as many as a 100 units in the last year and a half.My conclusion narrow it down to two units that will work for you...,and keep those. With less detectors life is less complicated, and you'll be able to concentrate on treasure hunting ie. enjoying the hobby. Some of the best metal detectors are the one's that are not having all the buzz.(not making big sale's money for the dealer's)I see a lot of hunter's that buy the greatest and most expensive unit just to end up disappointed. Some of the other units I like DFX,MXT,M6,CZs,Ace 250,Eagle 11,1266X,Tiger Shark,Excalibur,ID Ecel,Compadre,IDX Pro mod.

you are welcome!..the xl-pro in particular is one 'crackerjack" coin shooter, and a hell of a fun detector to use!..it has very good depth,a "dead nuts" accurate meter, (even at depth!),and coupled with
a 6" coil IS a coin "killer" in trash!

I see a lot of 5900/D machines and other Whites that I am not familiar with. They don't have their older machines on their website. What about an Eagle Spectrum ID or an Silver Eagle? There is a SE for sale down the road for 100.00

J

The Eagle Spectrum is like a XLT except uses C batteries minus a saved program and heavier. The Eagle 11 a very different type of detector better balance and much easier to program a great unit but a good used one is going to cost.

I see a quite a few of these for sale.

I mostly use an F75 but in heavy trash it is almost impossible to check all the signals.

Thanks,

J

Jack some poor guys wife selling off his equipment. My wife took my classic 111 to a neighborhood garage sales a few years ago and I asked what she got for it she proudly explained $15.00.I wasn't happy.

I had a T2 and the coil was too large for the old thrash infested city parks that I hunt.My guess the same problem for the Fisher T2.

Isn't it funny that no one mentioned any of the older machines! I like the AH Pro 2 and the Whites 4900D Pro Plus. The Pro 2 is very sensitive for finding coins and rings! The 4900 armed with a 12 inch loop will find the deeper targets. And all this with no bells and whistles!!................HH..........Joe

For hunting trashy parks especially small iron infested sites try a Compass 77B Pro or 77B Automatic. Although these have no discrimination, it will null out over small iron nails and will see the non-ferrous targets that are next to it!..............HH........Joe

The response to coins is superb and will blow your ears out whrn coil goes over coin.. Other top coin shooters i like are . 1 Explorer SE is good for 2 - 3 hour hunts and recovers coins really well. Whites DFX pretty good too , fast and wide sweep and light... Depth good.. The compass x100 i rate highly...
