The Small coils are coming.

Just passing on what I have read that was advertised here in Oz.
6 inch concentric 7.5kHz coil available mid 2007.
6 inch DD coil 18.75kHz late 2007.
Three cheers for Minelab.:clapping:

I read that too Mick. Mate, if the 10 x 5" 18.75khz is super sensitive can you imagine the 6". I could see it finding ultra rich fine gold specimens that have been passed over for years maybe!
Could be really interesting. What a coil selection they've given us huh!

I'd be getting both for sure and cant wait for these babies to arrive!
Bout bloody time too, keeps things intresting for the hard core hunters. I wonder what the prices on both are going to be like?
Cheers!

I was wondering how the 6 inch might fair at prospecting. I figure that because of it's size, it would be more stable on noisy ground.
Nugget. There was no price given as yet, but my guess it that it would be around the $175 here in Oz.
Mick Evans.

Cheers mate, lets hope there not over priced. Im sure the smaller DD coil will work a treat for prospecting and I personally cant wait to give one a test ride here in queensland.
Cheers!

introducing a small coil has little to do with anyone speaking up. If you take a look in the Operator's manual, you will see a sketch of the small coil. Since we got the manuals with the detectors, obviously Minelab had plans for it before the detectors were released. Nice to think that the small coil market is driven by consumer demand. But Minelab design, engineering, manufacturing and marketing get all the credit for this one. JMHO HH Randy

Agree with you Digger.

But they had good nerves keeping up with us frustrated ones and could have released some info earlier to calm us down.

Only a few close testers have known the fact for a while I guess:crylol:

I've been trying to stay abreast of the "small coil" availability since I first tested the X-Terra. But, as I have posted several times, "I would rather buy a product that was ready to hunt as opposed to buying one that had some problems or needed updates". I don't want to have an experience like a guy I know who paid $750 for a T2, sent it in for a broken collar ring and cracked armrest, and learned the software upgrades to make it run quieter were going to cost him $50 a pop! :stretcher:

I'm not big on those kind of surprises!

When it comes to a small coil for my X-Terra, I'm as anxious as the next guy. But I am not going to be too harsh on a Company that supposedly missed a release date it never set. If you think about it, we are blaming them because we just figured it would be here by now. Hopefully the ads from OZ are accurate. And maybe, in a few months, we can look back and realize it was worth the wait. :detecting: HH Randy

Not having an in with Minelab, I obviously didn't know it was their R & D who was 100% responsible for the small coil. It certainly couldn't be that maybe Customer Support got more than a few e-mails with consumers begging for a small coil. And I'm sure Minelab techs don't read the forums like these and scout out what customers want most for aftermarket products.

I shouldn't have made it sound like we, the consumers that drive the market, would take any of the credit.

I have to agree with you Digger. After testing my unit last night. I was horrified as too how bad it is. It sure isn't a very nice pill to swallow. It leaves a bad taste in your mouth. If Minelab put out equipment like that with any sort of regularity, then their sales would take a huge dive.
Bhodnes. There are no pictures yet.
Mick Evans.

Easy on the sarcasm, Ron. I will not apologize for having been one of the Field Testers for the X-Terra series. Regardless of who your contacts are, don't ignore the facts. The X-Terras were shipped with Operator's manuals. In that Operator's manual, there is a sketch of a smaller than stock accessory coil. We saw the sketch of the small coil before we even turned on the detector. It has always been a matter of when, not if.

Sure, there have been lots of posts speculating on the availability of accessory coils and undoubtedly emails to Customer Service asking about one. But the small coil was in the "works" long before any of us even heard of an X-Terra.

Agree again. The terra has never let me down and runs stable as a linedancer on every trip. Rock solid build together with easy functional menus and extreme lightweight makes it a true winner.

Once again i am going to praise the prospecting mode. I have used many different detectors and I think this mode is kicking some ass even on much more expensive units.

Thanks to You guys on this forum I was able to explore that mode enough to learn and make good use of it.

Didn't mean to jump on you there. And I meant no disrespect of the fact that you tested the unit. But I think us consumers are at least a little responsible for the success of a company and if their products are successful (like the Terra 70)they go on to make aftermarker coils and such. Of course I know that the Minelab engineers and guys like you are 100% responsible for production and testing. I didn't mean to start a war here, I'm usually soft spoken but sometimes things get taken out of content. All in all, I'm glad the small coil came out finally. Nuff said. Ron
