The Nokta FORS Relic is an excellent detector choice for any

Monte,
If you had to choose between the Racer 2 and the FR which would you choose? What differences have you noticed in the field. I hunt sites like you do.
Thanks!
Dean

Dean, I'm with you on this question! AND I would like to know how the Racer Gold would do on relic hunting also! In my experience, the "gold machines" are awesome when hunting for civil war relics as well!

I loved the F19 but i needed more depth , what i want to know is, does the relic have more depth than the F19 and G2? No doubt in all the detectors i have ever had that the 19kz F19 was the best ID machine i ever used but 6 1/2 inches was as deep as i ever got with the machine. I was hoping the Relic at 19kz could ID like the F19 but have depth like my Fors Core?

Hopefully Monte, Keith southern, and others will chime in!

I've been RELIC HUNTING !!!! ... What Else? :detecting:

And using a variety of models from Makro and Nokta based upon the particular location (ranching/farming ghost town or one of the old gold mining town sites), but mainly leading it off was the FORS Relic.

I've owned a number of other makes and models that operated in the 17.5 to 20 kHz range, and after using the Teknetics G2 and Fisher Gold Bug Pro for a couple of years I was mostly unexcited. The Fisher F19, also at 19 kHz, was a model I hoped would remedy the lack of performance I had from the others, and I will say I LIKED the F19, by comparison, but it wasn't so great that I Loved it. Nope, even though I tried to because the F19's, and I acquired one twice, was a notable improvement over the four Teknetics G2's I had owned previously by providing a bit better depth and higher-conductive target responsiveness. Plus I liked the added features (except for the red backlight which I didn't care for)

And I am also going to add that it isn't just a specific 19 kHz operating frequency that makes all the difference in performance afield, and the Gold Bug Pro/G2 compared with the F19/G2+ are some examples. Same company, same engineers, same frequency, same search coils, but a marked difference in performance. I had the F19's and worked them against my MXT All-Pro I was using at the time, and the ±14 kHz model provided me more performance, although it was lacking some of the improved and newer adjustments .

I was looking for something with better adjustment features, better balance, and naturally better performance afield. I found it in January of 2015 once I had a FORS CoRe in my hands. It was 15 kHz, but overall performance was so impressive that not only were the 19 kHz F19's and G2 gone, but soon to follow would be the MXT All-Pro and MX5. I enjoy using the FORS CoRe which became my preferred all-around detector. It was soon complemented by the Makro Racer which is also a multi-purpose detector, but I mainly grabbed it for Coin Hunting tasks first, Relic Hunting applications second.

While the CoRe is quite capable, the abundant iron debris at most sites I hunt did have me wishing for a FORS series model with Tone Break and Iron Audio Volume adjustment ... and maybe it wouldn't hurt if it did operate at a little higher frequency after I used the FORS Gold + at some Relic Hunting sites. The 19 kHz Gold + became a model I grabbed for Relic Hunting a site if it was mainly plagued with iron nails as the 2-Tone mode works fine ... but it only has a couple of 2-Tone modes for Discrimination. When I got into a greater abundance of nasty rusty tin and such, the CoRe would take the lead because it also has the processed 3-Tone mode which helps deal with some types of trashy conditions.

The 19 kHz Gold + gave me better depth and all-purpose performance in most locations over the other 19 kHz models and other similar/close frequency competitors. I just wished it had a 3-Tone mode, Tone Break, and especially Iron Audio Volume adjustment. That wish was answered with the coming of the new FORS Relic. A model that has a very nice search coil selection and two excellent size and performance coils that come standard ... at a very competitive price. It isn't nose heavy like the F19 was, and it is hotter on two tiny gold pickers I use for seminars and detector comparisons, just like the Gold +. It also gets me better depth of detection than other 19 kHz competitors I have compared it with, allowing me the five different motion-based Discriminate modes to choose from to match the hunt location conditions.

The edge the Relic has over the CoRe comes mainly in the unmasking abilities in dense iron trash, and having Tone Break and Iron Volume over the CoRe.

My Racer 2 and CoRe are going to be worked a bit today in parts of a pasture where some of an old town site used to be, or on a hillside where a dance hall used to be since the bulk of the town has a dense growth of weedy grass that's tough to hunt in until it dries up in three months. But the Relic will be the first detector grabbed because of the frequency, the features, and the performance it provides me, and I am not too concerned about any depth of detection issues, either.

I have already pulled several old coins, trade tokens, cartridge cases, bullets, and eagle buttons down in the 5" to 8" range this year with ample room-to-spare. Today I'll likely use the stock 7X11 DD or perhaps a 5½X10 Concentric coil in the pasture land where targets can be a little deeper as they get churned around with each years plowing.

I really enjoy the FORS CoRe, and I have no issues with detection depth capabilities with my FORS Relic. Same weight and package configuration so I know you'll enjoy the comfortable balance and feel of the Relic, and teamed up with your CoRe, you'd have quite the pair of serious performers in your arsenal.
