I'll add that I do have the experience and own/use mainly the Deus 2, NOX 600 & 800. My detector wall is pretty full of hanging hardware, ATPro, F74LTD, V3i, CZ21, Excal 2, PI Pro Plus, Sea Hunter MK2 - (I love it for travel), TDI Beach Hunter to recall the most popular units hanging. IMHO I Cannot beat a PI for raw depth while saltwater wading up to my neck. In Mexico last year and the year before I met some locals who have taken to beating out the tourist-detectorists to the new jewelry drops. They don't care about the tides, they only care about being in first before I'm even outta bed. The SH MK2 was my best tool to get gold, digging faint hits, making holes halfway up my calf scored for me.
I've not posted in a long time due to other life distractions but that seems to be settling down, slowly for me. My adult stepson swings the 'Core, NOX, ATMax & V3i and we often compare undug signals on colonial sites. The Vortex announcement in my email was a nice surprise and this is my go to (first) forum to read opinions and real world experience. I'd gladly put the Vortex to the test if one landed at my door

Totally agree with you. I water hunt with a Deus 2 , Equinox 900 and an Original Fisher Impulse (with 8" coil). The Impulse will go a lot deeper in the water..

Remind's me of the Fisher F75 when you could do a upgrade on the software, Which was convenient like this Vortex.

I like it. I really like the fact that you can upgrade to the next level detector by "NOT" ordering another machine, but by simply downloading software to take you to the next metal detector level. No more "I have too many detectors in my closet." The pricing is also unbelievable.

This detector looks great, I was not a fan of the Apex or AT Pro but buying a detector made in the USA is worth it alone to give this one a try.

Looking more closely I see…
a potential issue for extended water use. The shaft locks if they are the old cam design, can silt up and freeze. This would possibly require a pressure wash to remove the grit. This has been a real issue on many detectors. My friend and fellow club member waterwalker set up a pressure washer in the back of his van to flush out the crud after his water hunts. I see the aftermarket shaft makers eyeing this i$$ue.

I want to like it. There are a few things i have issue with just from what i know. I don't like that it has no tone options, stuck in 3 or 5 tones. I don't care about the color but the tech is where the rubber meets the road so i'm waiting patiently for these to get into reviewers hands. On the videos it sounds more like an at pro, not my cup of tea but i get it. I personally like the upgradeable feature to move up the ladder if you choose. I've put off buying an xt elite to see if this would check the boxes for me. I hope it works out for garrett.

This is what White's Spectra V3i owners kept wanting in the V3i. Waterproof! New technology. Lithium-ion battery! I never did count Garrett out! And the ability to update a metal detector from one version of the metal detector to a completely different model is awesome. Garrett has raised the bar and it will be a hard act to follow.

I’m 100% onboard about what us V3i users wanted. I’m less impressed with the upgradable software config to gain the options and controls that I think should have been standard. I’m saying one version with it all would have sufficed. Garrett has plenty of lesser priced options. Software updates are routine and brought added real features on my French made detector. My EQX has had its minor updates too. I still have my V3i, by today’s standards it’s weighty. Having started in ‘86 with the old bigger form 6000 Di Pro progressing through all the top Whites units I have had great success. About 2011-12 I bought an ATPro as a companion unit for the Spectra and for air travel. That ATPro was great fun and the waterproofing was huge for me and the detector was a pleasure to use in sloppy conditions. I still have it. For me it will be hard to resist buying the Vortex to see for myself how it performs. I wish Garrett great success and hope for more innovation from them.

Agree! The Fisher Impulse AQ LTD has those ancient design shaft locks and at least a few of us have taken them off and replaced them with cam-locks like the ones shown from Steve's Detector Rods. Problem of silting up solved!
