I like it. I really like the fact that you can upgrade to the next level detector by "NOT" ordering another machine, but by simply downloading software to take you to the next metal detector level. No more "I have too many detectors in my closet." The pricing is also unbelievable.

My view with all respect….New Tech , sounds great, my only thoughts are of a couple of terms used in this video. non smearing/ popping. Then showing detector being tested with new iron nails , and not 100year old square nails rusty , rusty that i don’t encounter with my brand X……P . I need to see these test from an experienced detectorist. Not from the salesman point of view. Face it it’s reality. I hope to see positive results and will hold my thoughts to myself. I would love to spend my $$$ with an american made product. The verdict will be out until i can see someone like Mental Metal and Iffy Signals showing performance videos . HH Tony

This appears to be a continuation of White's Spectra V3i. This may be my next metal detector. American made. Durable workmanship. I have always said everything can be done through software technology. In recent years there has been a metal detector company that has dominated with software technology: customer service, customer relations, attentive, and very responsive. Garrett has always had those attributions. To have the best software writers simply advertise you are willing to pay top salary for them and they will come. I believe they are competitively priced.

Something I noticed with this new Vortex is, is it does not appear to have a lot of things setting wise that can be changed, I kind of like that, I am one that believes the manufacturers have hindered most detectors performance due to, to many filters that have been added and it appears Garrett may think this also with lack of things that can be changed settings wise Who actually knows though, was not sold on the Blue color but after watching a video posted on You Tube from one of the testers the Color scheme I like it kind of grows on you when you see the whole detector, also like the control pod as it is like the Axiom control pod, the available frequencies is a little odd to me also, I do like the three tiered bar graphs, may have to pick one up just to play around with and who knows it might just become a good park detector, price is low enough that it just might be a good purchase but we will not know until they are in the hands of people and reviews start coming out

I will definitely get a VX9. It looks good enough to warrant the investment and the price is good. While watching the presentation from Garrett, some folks in the chat were complaining that the display was monochromatic and not in color. My answer to that is, does color add depth? No. Does color aid in discrimination? No. Does color aid in separation? No. Does color aid in battery life? No. So, what does a color display add? More cost! No thanks, I don't need a color display!

In the past Garrett has had limited audio . the ability to change audio to ones preferred hearing would be something Garrett needs to address.

Maybe they have even a higher end detector to go head to head with the Mani or D2 that will be released later on, back to the price point I don’t see this series being that right now. Surprised they didn’t release a pin pointer that “links” to this detector series to “corner” that market even more. Not being critical of them, just thoughts…. I believe more versions will be available in the not to distant future, even the 9’s spec sheet says it’s upgradable. Being new to detecting in the past year I started off swinging the Apex. Liked this machine a lot, and I have some really nice finds with it however I felt I wasn’t getting much depth with it in the highly mineralized soil of Northern Michigan so I decided to upgrade. Almost bought a legend this morning but ended up preordering the 9 and at this point I am happy with my decision. Like Garrett’s support and the fact that it is built in U.S.

color adds visibility.....if you can't see or read the display without straining, color is worth it...glad you don't need it but.........

If it weren't for the AT pro none of these other companies would have stepped they're game up, so I give garrett credit for a great machine and setting the bar back then..But it's time they get back in the game, and I hope this is just the start of some great machines.

Color screens will drain battery life!! Plus color screens go out....

I like it. The target display on the VX9 is a good response to the Minelab xy graphs.
I see real time signal strength along with ferrous / non-ferrous characteristic for every target under the coil. Very impressive!

Looking forward to the operator manual.

I guess I will tell the wife I bought it for her.

I had to watch the presentation to see if this would really be new or “catch up” by Garrett in terms of what we’ve seen developed by the competition inclusive of the last 8 to 9 years. Garrett having acquired Whites I could only hope that this “new” series will truly be new. If I could swing one over my test plot then hit a couple colonial era cellar holes I’d know for sure….oh saltwater performance in and out would be the third leg of my testing. It’s a $600 gamble. I should sell off a couple of my detectors - ATPro, V3i etc then buy the Vortex just because I like a different configuration and balance these days. Vortex looks close, but does it punch without falsing in the wild?

I'll add that I do have the experience and own/use mainly the Deus 2, NOX 600 & 800. My detector wall is pretty full of hanging hardware, ATPro, F74LTD, V3i, CZ21, Excal 2, PI Pro Plus, Sea Hunter MK2 - (I love it for travel), TDI Beach Hunter to recall the most popular units hanging. IMHO I Cannot beat a PI for raw depth while saltwater wading up to my neck. In Mexico last year and the year before I met some locals who have taken to beating out the tourist-detectorists to the new jewelry drops. They don't care about the tides, they only care about being in first before I'm even outta bed. The SH MK2 was my best tool to get gold, digging faint hits, making holes halfway up my calf scored for me.
I've not posted in a long time due to other life distractions but that seems to be settling down, slowly for me. My adult stepson swings the 'Core, NOX, ATMax & V3i and we often compare undug signals on colonial sites. The Vortex announcement in my email was a nice surprise and this is my go to (first) forum to read opinions and real world experience. I'd gladly put the Vortex to the test if one landed at my door
