I just received my one-piece Anderson lower rod. First impressions are largely favorable: the instructions were easy to follow and the rod quality seems good. The thumb screw used to tighten the coil/rod connection is a wee bit too large, end scrapes against the coil when turned. But that's pretty minor.
The only other issue I've noticed so far is that after detecting with the rod extended, I couldn't get it to retract as fully as the Minelab lower rod does. I discovered that the last wrap of coil cable, right before it enters the plastic-covered section of the connector, isn't as tightly wound as the rest of the cable. So it doesn't telescope neatly into the lower rod when the lower rod is pushed into the upper rod, and thus prevents the lower rod from being fully retracted.
I can't say for sure if this is due to the Anderson rod or to an issue with my coil cable, but I've never had this problem with the Minelab rod. I'd be interested to know if anyone else has experienced this and if they've found a fix for it.
