The New AT MAX Has Finally Arrived! There Are Some Great Improvements.

With the expanded ground balance, the AT MAX is supposed to do much better in salt and highly mineralized soils like those in Australia.

The volume control is in the wireless headset. I haven't done any comparison tests, as I don't presently have one.

A single frequency can only take out one or the other...black sand or salt.

I am liking the other improvements that have been done. Waiting to hear the reports.

It looks good, but I hope they have corrected one of the major problems that haunted the AT Pro / Gold.

That being the control head breaking away from the shaft.

Longer and larger screws were needed.

I said before better depth is the only make or break improvement this detector needs to suit me.

But you're right, it sure would be a big plus if that darn control head would quit breaking off. :ranting:

Six years with more detecting hours than any other detector during that time period means I've put quite a few hours on multiple AT Pros. Even so, three broken off control boxes (and many other reports from folks like Jerry) indicates it's more than a random issue.

Most of the other early integrity problems Garrett had with the AT Pro were corrected within the first year or two.

Garrett is a company that learns from their mistakes and makes corrections without a lot of fanfare when there is a problem. I can't imagine that the Max won't have a more robust control box connection.

Oh ok I was under the impression that you would most likely be a tester of this fine machine.

So we do have volume control! I wish they had incorporated a surface blast feature into the headphones. This way hunters (like myself) could flip a switch to soften the surface target volume and allow one to hunt at full volume thus hearing the deeper and softer target signals. Especially in Pro Mode where the audio is proportional.
