Garrett has made significant improvements on the current AT Pro platform. Users have been asking for a back-light....Done! Requested a built in wireless system...... Done! The unit has improved depth with the new "True All Metal Mode" while still utilizing the iron audio feature. The window for ground balancing has been enlarged, allowing better hunting abilities in wet salt/salt water environments. Some of the features only available on the AT Gold are now standard on the AT MAX. The adjustable threshold is now available so you can detect changes in audio to dig those ever so deep targets. You can now manually ground balance the unit, or use auto ground balance.

Included in the package is a set of wireless headphones with the built in Z-Lynk™ Wireless . Garrett has listened to it's customers and made significant changes to an already popular selling metal detector. I look forward to reading posts and seeing some great finds made with the new Garrett AT MAX!

Kudos to Garrett for the wireless headphones!

Will battery life be less, and will it be more stable in saltwater? These are my questions.

It is supposed to be better in salt water. As far as battery life is concerned, I guess we will have to wait until the results come in.

At about the 106 mark on the video, Steve says "increased transmit power and enhanced electronics provides the AT Max with an increased significant depth increase"

Nice to see backlight and larger numbers, but still miniature 10 20 30 number scale... and too small of descriptions at top of screen for my eyes. Maybe I'm the only one with the issue...

It looks good, but I hope they have corrected one of the major problems that haunted the AT Pro / Gold.

That being the control head breaking away from the shaft.

Longer and larger screws were needed.

I've heard that before. I've got many hundreds of hours in with mine and never experienced that problem. In fact, I have never had a problem of any kind save for one bad head phone adapter and Garrett promptly sent me another free of charge. Guess we'll see shortly how it does. HH jim tn

I don't know anything about the wireless headphones, does this mean theres no longer a port for corded headphones to be used and with the control pod submerged for wading does it still work, communicate to the wireless headphones?

Thank you

Control pod will have to stay above water line to use the wireless hps. Connector still on control box for wired phones so u can still hook up waterproof hos or use the hp adaptor and run hps of tour choice.

I wish they included a Volume Control.

Mr. John-Edmonton: Have you done any depth tests air or ground wise? If so, what changes have you noticed? Thanks - Jim

The wireless headphones have a volume control.

Ok thank you sir.

I would think with the Threshold adjustment that would be like a volume control. I like the fact that there is no pro or standard mode. I'm not sure about the ground balance window, but I watched video on Tha AT GOLD and think that's what will make it more stable on salt water. I COULD BE WRONG.

I was hoping for multifrequency because on the West coast black sand and salt will give a single frequency unit nightmares.
I will just stick with my AT Gold for freshwater and PI for saltwater.
